Woman facing murder charge after allegedly pushing elderly man off bus

Woman charged with murder for fatally pushing elderly man from Las Vegas bus

A 74-year-old man who was pushed off a Las Vegas public bus -- allegedly by a woman he had told to "be nicer" -- has died from injuries he suffered when he hit the sidewalk, and the woman has been charged with his murder.

Surveillance video released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department this week captured the scuffle that led to Serge Fournier tumbling from the bus.

The video helped Vegas police identify and arrest suspect Cadesha Michelle Bishop, 25, according to a criminal complaint.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. on a Thursday evening in March, as the bus moved through downtown Las Vegas, according to a warrant issued for Bishop.

Cadesha Michelle Bishop of Las Vegas is seen in this undated booking photo.
The video, which did not include sound, showed Fournier speaking to Bishop, then getting behind him and -- as the bus stopped and the exit door opened -- allegedly shoving him with both hands off the bus. Fournier, who was holding a foldable shopping cart, landed face-first on the pavement and hit his head, according to the warrant.

Fournier "was pushed with enough force that he never touched any of the steps," the arrest warrant stated. "[He] went directly from the bus aisle platform to the concrete sidewalk. His head landed approximately eight feet from the bus doorway."

Witnesses told police that Bishop had been cursing at other bus riders, prompting Fournier to tell her to "be nicer to the passengers," according to the arrest warrant. Bishop, who was wearing a "Love" emblem on her jacket, fled the bus with a child without offering assistance to Fournier, witnesses said, according to the warrant.

Fournier was found bleeding from the right side of his head. He initially refused treatment but later went to the hospital, police said. He died from in injuries a month later, on April 23, and his family notified police on May 3.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled Fournier's death a homicide after an autopsy showed he died from complications ti blunt-force torso injuries.

Bishop was arrested on May 6. She remained in custody on $100,000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday, according to online jail records. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23.

las vegas buses are wild and ghetto even compared to our buses in L.A county. I saw some ghetto shennanigans taking one from the strip toward maryland parkway on flamingo and one toward the speedway by the airforce base.

Disgusting. But is the use of the term 'murder' just a media thing or are they actually charging her with first degree homicide?

    Because that's manslaughter, not murder.

Can’t be first degree as she wasn’t sitting the night before planning it out and putting together detailed maps of locations, times and who the fuck can count on a bus coming at the exact time you need it......no chance

Pretty common. Media misuses the "murder" term fairly often.

Where I'm from, when you catch a bus you are basically forfeiting your right to not be stabbed by a meth junkie. We would just step over the old fella and say "you knew the risk".

Normal people catch trains and trams (trolley cars) to commute to work, but if you are an adult and on a bus, something has already gone terribly wrong in your life and there's a good chance it's about to get even worse.

Is it manslaughter? I am no lawyer...

I thought manslaughter was when you kill someone by MISTAKE due to some careless or reckless action. You didn't intend to hurt anyone but your stupid-ness cause someone to die.

In this case maybe she didn't mean to kill him but she totally deliberately pushed him off the bus, INTENT TO HARM.

If I beat someone up but 'didn't intend to kill him', is that manslaughter? If I throw a shovel at someone but didn't intend to kill her, is that manslaughter?

I'd be curious what the legal terms are. Wouldn't be surprised if that constitutes murder. She totally deliberately pushed that guy down a good fall onto the concrete. No accident. Full conscious intent.

    'Charged with'

Wonder if anyone will try to up it in court.

Does anyone here know the actual legal difference and how it would apply to this case?

    First degree requires prior planning
If you punch someone in the face and they break their head open it can’t be first degree, however it is probably voluntary Manslaughter

"Killing" or "Homicide" would have worked just fine in a headline. And the article says 'charged with murder' too, it's not just the headline.

And I wasn't nitpicking, it was a genuine question about what she'd been charged with because of the repetition.

Completely senseless. Old man does nothing but asks her to be courteous of others and loses his life for it. Hope this bitch gets the max sentence for whatever she's convicted of.

    1) Murder and homicide are synonymous. 2) She likely will be charged with murder and then offered a plea deal on a less charge like manslaughter.

Murder and homicide are not direct synonyms. Murder is a type of homicide. Manslaughter is another. If you use the word 'homicide', then you can mean either. But you cannot say 'murder' when you mean 'manslaughter' as it applies to a specific charge, as you seem to be aware. Which makes your inability to understand the first part rather baffling.

Murder is a direct synonym or homicide. You're attempting to argue the legal definition of murder where the dictionary definition provides all of your answers.

You're also continuing to operate under the assumption she isn't being charged with murder.

yeah that's what I'm talking about

It may seem weird but I feel for the poor fucks who have to spend a life in prison and lose their whole lives and families over one moment of impulsiveness that went sideways

Doesn't help the old man or his family but still.

well how many moments of impulsiveness do we get away with where it DOESN'T go sideways, but could?

People that are more impulsive just increase their odds of having it go wrong one day.

stay cool, folks. Don't lose your shit.
