MOSCOW, May 12 (RAPSI, Diana Gutsul) – Prosecutor demanded five years in prison for MMA fighter Alexander Emelianenko who stands accused of sexual assault, Emelianenko's lawyer, Alexander Karabanov, told RAPSI on Tuesday.

According to investigators, Emelianenko assaulted and raped 27-year-old Polina Stepanova, his housekeeper, on the night of March 2, 2014, and then seized her passport. The trial is being held behind closed doors.

“Emelianenko has admitted today that he had sex [with my client], but claims that it was consensual. In my opinion, he is lying in an attempt to avoid punishment. I believe there is sufficient evidence of his guilt. The prosecutor has rejected our argument that [Emelianenko] also induced the victim to use drugs, but has upheld other charges and has asked the court to sentence him to five years in prison and a 60,000 ruble (about $1,200) fine,” said Karabanov.

He also said that Emelianenko’s attorneys showed off the fighter’s prizes in the court on Tuesday.

Emelianenko has pleaded not guilty and claims that sex with the girl was consensual.

Alexander Emelianenko is a Russian mixed martial arts fighter who has represented the country at many international championships. He ranked as the No.73 heavyweight in the world in 2013. His younger brother Fedor Emelianenko is believed to be the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in history.

Unlike his brother, Alexander is often implicated in scandals, usually as a result of alleged heavy drinking. Earlier, he was charged with assaulting a retired person at a Moscow café. The criminal case against Emelianenko was dropped after a settlement had been reached.

rape should hold a very harsh sentence. i've been with a couple of women that have been raped a decade or more prior, and they said they could still get uncomfortable during sex, or if they see something that reminded them of it. it ruins a long period of their lives, so it should do the same to the rapist.
if he did it, he should be put away.

Is Karabanov Aleksander's lawyer? Cos if so, he's not doing a great job. Is he also representing the alleged victim?

"According to Pauline, she was removed for a long time in the apartment, then Emelianenko offered her to play cards with him, but she refused." Stanislav Maltsev, the victim's lawyer, told BFM.ru. "After that, he slapped her on the head."

Immediately aware of the severity of the situation, Stepanova followed Emelianenko's instructions.

"He forced her to smoke a cigarette with "grass" and drink alcohol. All requests to let her go home and not to touch Emelianenko were refused."

from this different article it looks like Stanislav Maltsev is her lawyer. its probably just a crappy google translation

Man he's always got some shit going on.

What a waste of great fight career. Just needs to not be part of the drugs and the people, but seems too into it.

If he did rape her, fuck em. Too late to fix this kind of action.

I'm torn here.
It's common for women to do this in America, but under these circumstances?
She had sex with him because she was scared?
SOUNDS like regret, and capitalization, but who would attempt that if they knew of Fedor's importance to Russia, and relationship to Putin?
This is very intriguing.
There could be much more going on here, or it could be straight up.
One thing is for sure; Alexander is a troubled man, one way or the other...

What's the FRAT version?
Just wanna make sure you're not misunderstanding me.
Just what I said. FBI says 92+ percent of american foorced rape claims are wholly accurate (which is one of the larger percents of false claims, but its the FBI so I used it so it isn't some biased group). I just dunno how common I would consider false rape claims in general. Especially in a situation where a woman is sticking to the story after being investigated by police. Of course it happens and its all fucked up. But Im strongly inclined to believe this woman until the police start showing the story is busted up.

In a he said/she said type incident though, I have to wonder if there shouldn't be other special considerations made. The woman should PROBABLY believed at face value in almost every case. But maybe they shouldn't have the charges public until there's a conviction? some sort of balance.

The charges in public are fine, as long as the public isn't prosecuting or passing judgement.
No one is guilty of misogyny for withholding judgement until facts are in.
8% is very high, but not even the situation I'm referring to, where that 8% would likely move into the 20-50% range(I have no idea if there's an agency or criteria to even mold this category); And that is accusations against the wealthy and powerful. Alex alone doesn't meet that criteria, but his brother sure does.
Settlements are made even in criminal matters all the time worldwide.
But who knows?
I'm just not one predisposed to believe anyone without the facts.
And this is from experience.

The wealthy and powerful are more likely to think they can get away with it so I wouldn't say the numbers are even close to 20-50%. Sexual assault has a much higher threshhold of evidence than most are led to believe. The cries of "regret rape" are mostly a myth.
