UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos wanted nothing more than to be in Las Vegas this week to defend his title against featherweight king Conor McGregor.

Unfortunately, dos Anjos suffered a broken foot just two weeks ago that forced him to drop out of the bout before he was replaced with Nate Diaz on late notice.

Following dos Anjos' withdrawal from the card, McGregor launched into an attack on the lightweight champion claiming that he was only suffering from a bruise on the foot and he wasn't buying the excuse that anything was actually broken.

Well, dos Anjos posted a photo of his extremely swollen foot just a day after he dropped out of the bout and now there's even further proof of his injury after his manager confirmed via Instagram that the lightweight champion is now wearing a cast on his broken foot.

"When you have a bruise you don't have a cast on," dos Anjos' manager Ali Abdel-Aziz wrote on Instagram. "One thing I can tell you -- Conor was relieved when he found out Rafael dos Anjos was injured and I really mean it, this is not trash talking -- I truly mean it."

Following his post on Instagram, Abdel-Aziz spoke to FOX Sports to give an update on the lightweight champion's condition following a visit to the doctor where the cast was put on his

According to his manager, dos Anjos will be in a hard cast for about three weeks and then a walking boot for another five weeks.

Following those eight weeks to allow the foot to heal, dos Anjos will then be able to return to training full time.

So the approximate timeline for dos Anjos to get back into the gym would be around the end of April or beginning of May depending on how his foot heals and when doctors give him clearance to return to training.

No date has been determined for dos Anjos' return to action but if he's able to get back into training in May, it's still possible he could fight as early as UFC 200 in July.

Whether or not dos Anjos gets matched up with McGregor again is still unknown as well. For now, McGregor just has to get past Diaz on Saturday night before he decides what his next course of action will be and if pursuing the lightweight title is still his No. 1 goal.

I don't get it? Did he have surgery, or a fracture re-set? Or did they just throw a cast on after a week and say, "Hey, he's really hurt!"

I'm not a medical expert, but it looked as if he fractured a couple of metatarsals. Here's what i found online concerning that injury:

Treatment of Metatarsal Fractures
Breaks in the metatarsal bones may be either stress or traumatic fractures. Certain kinds of fractures of the metatarsal bones present unique challenges.

For example, sometimes a fracture of the first metatarsal bone (behind the big toe) can lead to arthritis. Since the big toe is used so frequently and bears more weight than other toes, arthritis in that area can make it painful to walk, bend, or even stand.

Another type of break, called a Jones fracture, occurs at the base of the fifth metatarsal bone (behind the little toe). It is often misdiagnosed as an ankle sprain, and misdiagnosis can have serious consequences since sprains and fractures require different treatments. Your foot and ankle surgeon is an expert in correctly identifying these conditions as well as other problems of the foot.

Treatment of metatarsal fractures depends on the type and extent of the fracture, and may include:

  • Rest. Sometimes rest is the only treatment needed to promote healing of a stress or traumatic fracture of a metatarsal bone.
  • Avoid the offending activity. Because stress fractures result from repetitive stress, it is important to avoid the activity that led to the fracture. Crutches or a wheelchair are sometimes required to offload weight from the foot to give it time to heal.
  • Immobilization, casting, or rigid shoe. A stiff-soled shoe or other form of immobilization may be used to protect the fractured bone while it is healing.
  • Surgery. Some traumatic fractures of the metatarsal bones require surgery, especially if the break is badly displaced.
  • Follow-up care. Your foot and ankle surgeon will provide instructions for care following surgical or non-surgical treatment. Physical therapy, exercises and rehabilitation may be included in a schedule for return to normal activities.

We get it. Everyone is scared of Conor and no injury is ever legitimate. We all heard it the first 1000 times Conor said it, so there's no need to parrot it just because you're a fan of the guy.

Sure they couldn't have put a cast on when the foot pics came out, too much swelling.

My cousin is an orthopedic surgeon and he looked at the first pic of the foot and said it's definitely NOT broken.

Saying it's a bruise has really got to RDA. Pretty funny.
I bet Conies legion of fan would be ok, if Conor fought with a know broken hand.
Funny you say that, McGregor fought Poirier with a broken thumb.
