I know people are going to make a big deal about this, and yeah hindsight is 20/20 they'd be better off stopping it.
But a corner is also there to motivate a fighter and push them through tough times. Rocky has a once in a lifetime shot at the title and she has one round left to make it happen. I don't have a problem with them pushing her forward and I don't think there'd be the same outrage if it was a male fighter.
Fuck that shit, fight like a warrior, go out on your shield! Now MMA reddit and Twitter is full of people's grandmas all of a sudden lol
So did Gilbert’s, he didn’t get KO’ed but his leg is still fucked and thats the reason he hasn’t fought since.
I’m not saying this was ok, but it does seem to be a more common occurrence than it should be.
oh I thought it was over...missed that fight
Raquel knows her body and how she's feeling, I know there's a certain level of "it's one more round, you'll look back on pulling out and regret it" to the situation, but dire shit has happened in the past where fighters have not been observed/listened to by their corner, and been sent out for "one more round".
Bad move by her corner.
We've seen it time and time again where a fighter thinks they are done, then the corner sends them out again and they get a finish. I have no problem with them sending her out again. The last thing a corner wants is for their fighter to quit and get that into their mindset. I don't see a brokenness as a reason for the corner to think a fight needs to be stopped.
Fuck that shit man up and finish the fight. Corner was spot on
wtf mario if true
you would know Champ
tell us about that time you told your corner to get bent and went out and took the beating
so don't listen to your fighter?...If they have a tendency to quit then I might understand...but if not then listen to them...lots to lose in MMA if your mind body is not right
One of the most important jobs of any coach is to get the mind and body right. Yeah there's lots to lose in MMA, but there's no reward without risk and if you're not willing to risk it in a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT than when are you going to risk it? An athlete hits the wall and doubts themselves... a coach motivates them and gets them over it.
If this was any male fighter challenging for a title and he went back to his corner and said "my nose is broke, I'm done, I want to quit", he'd get CRUCIFIED by the fans. But because it's a female fighter everyone turns into someone's grandma. Pennington eats more pussy than any dude on the roster, she's tough, she can take it.
you have thought about it a lot more than me
I barely know these fighters...just want them to be able to throw in towel...maybe that is just me
But it is a PPV, and if I paid then I expect more than if I barely paid attention like I did for this card.
I hear ya dude...but I don't know MMA corners very well

I've got mixed feelings about this. 1 half of me agrees with you %100. You are a professional fighter. You've trained countless hours for this moment. Go out like a champion. The other half of me wonders what kind of damage she sustained with the busted nose and jacked up leg. Pennington always seemed like a hard ass but at what point does that become your Achilles heel? Its one thing to take more punishment when the fight is close like Lawler vs McDonald but this fight was so one sided that it was almost cringeworthy.
It's a shitty version of @coachedmund
Honestly who would be stupid enough to fall for that?
Well i guess the equal rights arguement just hit a brick wall. Thats gender equality for ya!
I think it is supposed to be funny not factual
Clearly, but regardless, it's neither
for sure, as a corner, it's really hard to make the call since losing means making less money for their fighters.
Only time I can think of corner throwing towel was Parillo when BJ was getting smashed by GSP and Nick Diaz when his lil bro got head kicked to oblivion, and for Nick, that's different cuz Nate's family.
there is definitely a double standard being the first gay vs gay championship in a big organization should be getting more attention but because they were two lesbos instead of flaming gay boys
You are not incorrect
Not the same as "I've got nothing left coach" and coach tries to motivate one more round out of them.
Her nose was in 3 time zones. One more tap and she was done & she knew that.
Sure enough Nunes found the nose and it was allllllll over.
When a fighter says they are done the fight is over. Mentally there is no coming back from that as you have already admitted defeat.
is it strange that john lineker was taking vitor's corner firas zahabi advice.. ? thought that was brilliant.. lead to the body but vitor went head hunting and he got caught. but i agree.. if she was done.. no shame in throwing in the towel.. live to fight another day.. nothing wrong with that.
