Just two years ago, Chris Weidman was on top of the UFC middleweight division, beating one Brazilian legend after another. All of a sudden, he was on a two-fight skid and he lost his title in the process.

Weidman will be facing another tough task ahead, when he fights Gegard Mousasi as the co-headliner of UFC 210 this weekend in Buffalo, New York. On his quest to get the belt back, long-time striking coach Ray Longo admitted that they did hit a rough patch.

"If you think about it, there was only one way to go. You can’t keep going up and up and up,” Long said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “So we plateaued a little bit before. I think that’s going to be the mantra.…

Fedor went up ..up and up ....for over a decade.

Weidman plateaued when USADA came to town.


This fight with Mousasi is the fight of the year for me, very excited to see how this turns out.

I listened to this and he was referring to the gym, not Weidman specifically. The writer is distorting the quote slightly to focus it on Weidman. Entirely possible that Weidman was improving, but not at a fast enough rate to keep up with his competition, along with several other losses from various fighters, causing a plateauing of results from fighters training at Serra-Longo.

See Ray is different than Matt which is why he hasnt said anything. Ray is the guy who talks like that Matt is the one who will come out and say he got fucked up and now we are going to work harder.
