I just finished S3 of the show and just over halfway through book 2. I wish I was closer together but oh well

No matter how much you hate Joffrey in the show he's drastically worse in the book.

Never watched or read, worth it?
So far? Absolutely
I have heard all about how terrible the last season is but that is still 7 great seasons. And I know it's been forever since the last book was released with no timeline for the next, let alone the last, but that's still 5 great books to read

I don't expect to ever get the 3rd book in the king killer trilogy by Patrick Rothfuss but I love the two books we did get.

The books are a fantastic read.

The first four seasons of the show are awesome, then from season 5 onwards it slowly starts to tail off story wise as the show writers began to outpace the source material.

The production values and big special effects laden battles cover for the drop off to some degree, but by season 8 there's a lot of garbage level writing on display and you can tell that Benioff and Weiss (show creators) were rushing to finish the show as they were rumoured to be in the running to take on a major Star Wars project.

After the disastrous ratings for season 8, that didn't happen.

The books were good until the 4th. Martin’s postmodernism has his characters going off on so many different tangential arcs that he will never be able to wrap it up.
