The real funny thing is we all know how this will play out

Jones loses sponsorship

Jones eventually comes back to fight wins fight

Reebok signs him again and says Jon has done his time and we are confident he will represent the brand well.

Its all such a joke and so easy to predict.

no offence but has the man been convicted?
Doesn't matter to a sponsor. They don't have to play the whole 'innocent until proven otherwise' game, then have the luxury of doing the same as any of us on the sidelines in a case like this, which is see the obvious without fucking around with the red tape. The dude ran from the scene and left the pregnant lady sitting there with a broken arm, that much is a fact and there isn't a courtroom in the US that can change that. If I'm Reebok I don't give a fuck what excuse his legal team comes up with for his actions by the time it hits the courtroom floor!

can they get away with that? i suppose there is probably something in the contract that states, "disrepute" and can be used however the contracting party wants it to be used......kind of like my company, if they looked on here i would be fired in minutes

They probably have a code of conduct clause built into the sponsorship. Something similar to this perhaps: "Fighters shall conduct themselves in accordance with commonly accepted standards of decency, social convention, and morals, and fighters will not commit any act or become involved in any situation or occurrence or make any statement which will reflect negatively upon or bring disrepute, contempt, scandal, ridicule or disdain to the fighter or the UFC."

They do. They have a fighter conduct policy that all fighters sign away and adhere to. Jones has broken it twice this year alone. The UFC and Reebok are both well in their boundaries to suspend him, conviction be damned.

Adrian Peterson lost a shitload of sponsorships before his case was ever brought to court.

I think it was the right thing to do. If i was the ceo i would've done it in a heartbeat. Corporations are about the bottom line. Anything that adversely affects the bottom line must be excised immediately if I'm looking at it from their point of view.

So when he comes back during the UFC/Reebok deal, will his standardized fight wear not carry the Reebok logo? If not, he's still a sponsored fighter in my eyes.

If/when he comes back i think he'd still be included in the teir payment structure, just not sponsored in addition to it by reebok specifically if I'm understanding this correctly.

I'm pretty sure this only pertains to the individual sponsorship. Reebok has hand picked a few UFC fighters which they now sponsor outside of the deal they landed with the organization. It would be like Adrian Peterson who I think lost his deal with Nike after the incident with his child, but he will still be wearing the Nike sponsored and made NFL jersey on Sunday afternoon! All fighters will be required to wear the Reebok uniforms, an in so doing they must be paid as part of the UFC/fighter model under this agreement........which Reebok has no say in at this point!

If you're paying someone to represent you, do you feel comfortable paying them if you feel you are at risk by having them be a reflection upon you? Or do you think you should pay them regardless unless they're convicted of something. It's your money, you decide.

so are you saying he won't get paid by reebok, but still has to wear their product when he fights?

No, he will get paid by the UFC for wearing Reebok in place of his own sponsors like every other fighter in the organization, but he will no longer be sponsored by Reebok as an individual to do ads and things like that for the Reebok brand. I think Ronda and Paige Van Zant among a couple others have landed that deal and it is likely a fairly lucrative one...........that's what Jones just lost. Kind of like GSP's Under Armor sponsorship.

He will get paid by reebok, but it will only be like 10k, 15k, or 20k per fight...whatever tier he falls into based on tenure.

i guess it doesn't matter really because it's their money, not mine, but the man has "allegedly" committed a crime and he's already being crucified..........to qualify, i haven't read up on it and don't know what really happened but he's done without a chance to defend himself.

damn, lost Nike exclusive and now Reebok. Just throwing money away. It's really ridiculous and self destructive. I wonder what his childhood was really like. Not how they portray it but what it was really like after the death of his sister. That's what I'd dig into like a yellow skinned drunk and pilled up Oprah/Donahue

or wait, maybe if he actually did it, he can do what michael irvin (by the way, loved him when was part of the 90s 'boys) did and blame it on a "friend" and have Deion Sanders back it up by saying "I know Michael had this friend with a marijuana problem and that is why the pipe was in his car, Michael should have been more careful".........that shi- is true and frankly, Jones needs to get some mo friends like Deion if he wants to walk away from this mess...............

No he would get paid through the teired deal, but not his extra exclusive contract that Rhonda, PVZ, and a few others have.

Anyone who has had to go through the death of an immediate family member knows that it can really fuck you up even if you are an incredibly strong person.

That one is never quite as effective when you have to use it only a few months after checking yourself out of rehab for coke............one day after checking yourself in, lol!

Yeah but say you are going to hire someone to mow your lawn. This person is on the local news, several stations, for allegidly raping a small girl.
The community is in an outrage. You hired him to mow your lawn, but you don't want him and his truck with his face on the side of the truck/van parked in front of your house. Sure you aren't guilty, sure he hasn't been proven guilty, but in the public eye, he's shunned, and by being affiliated with him, you as well might get shunned.
So instead of hiring him, you hire a lawn service completely different, for the purpose of not having to worry about your lawn getting mowed and neighbors/community shunning you. This is better than having a lawn service and your name being affiliated in a negative way.

Your angle is more about laws, where as this situation is more about a termable contract.

You do realise the most likely explanation for a 1 day stay in rehab is that they did a 24 hour evaluation and determined he wasn't an addict, and then sent him home?
