Report: Bellator in talks with UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald

Bellator president Scott Coker is reported to have begun communications with UFC free agent Rory MacDonald.

Rory MacDonald made it no secret that he was going to be testing free agency after his fight with Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 89.

His fight with 'Wonderboy', which marked MacDonald's second consecutive loss, was the last fight on his UFC contract and the Canadian announced in March that he wanted 'to make the most money' he could.

According to Chamatkar Sandhu of MMA Junkie, MacDonald has backed up his claims and begun discussing options with Bellator.

Bellator President Scott Coker told me they have begun a line of communication with Rory MacDonald in the hopes of signing the free agent.

This would be a huge grab for Bellator. Even coming off two losses Rory is still one of the best in the world in his weight class. He would instantly be a viable matchup for down of their guys and win or lose its a win for Bellator to put him out there.

Im kinda wondering if Dana told him to play free agent because of the lawsuit, so in the end it looks like the ufc won him over bellator.

Immediate title shot, maybe. But I'll say again- it's no forgone conclusion that he beats Koreshkov.

Admittedly I'm not hugely knowledgeable in bellators roster, but to my knowledge that will be the only real test for him over there.

I think I've posted here long enough and made my opinions clear enough for you to know I'm not.

Not being hugely knowledgeable is not the same as being completely ignorant. I do know a few of the better fighters bellator has in that division and I stand by the champ being possibly the only real challenge for rory should he go over.

Rory should go to bellator. He will get paid much more than his current deal.. And he will be able to rake in as much sponsor as he can. He will also be their key to Canada(to a degree).

There are also some solid matches for him at ww. Lima, Daley, Andrey, shit chidi will make for a solid stand up scrap. He won't be standing alone in bellator that for sure
