Report: Mayweather offering McGregor $50 million

While not many believe it can be finalized, details about a possible boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather continue to go public it seems. 'Money' has claimed that the cross-over fight could beat his pay-per-view record against Manny Pacquiao, and net them both a 'great' payday at the same time.

According to TMZ, the current offer Mayweather is giving McGregor is at $50 million. The report states that the proposed bout would be on New Year's Eve, in Las Vegas.

They also cite a source close to Floyd's camp, who says that Mayweather has yet to reach out and discuss terms with Dana White and the UFC, which currently has McGregor under contract.

It wouldn't be a legal fee. They'd get an injunction and he wouldn't be able to fight......

I think an injunction would likely stop the bout. It wouldn't be any fee. @ErikMagraken

The only way would be if he reaches a financial arrangement with the UFC. I doubt he could afford to buy himself out of his contract, but if enough money is dangled in Zuffa's face, then it might be possible.

It would be bad business for the UFC who likes to control their stars' popularity (no Werdum masks).
It would be bad business for MMA when Conor is KOd inside of 2 rounds.
It would be bad business for Conor's reputation, but good business for his pocket book.

While I defer to your legal acumen on whether McGregor would win a case like this, how long would it take for something like this to play out? Could the prospect of a protracted lawsuit be used as leverage at the negotiating table, regardless of it's outcome, as the UFC would have to shelve McGregor and any potential paydays he brings untill it is over. Might it be financially prudent for the UFC to acquiesce, assuming some sort of financial reward, to this fight rather than lock their star up from competing entirely?

Not bad business for UFC if it is financially viable.
Not bad business for MMA because nobody expects Conor to win at Floyd's discipline.
Not bad business for Conor's reputation, because once again he is expected to lose. Fighting Floyd and attaching himself to Floyd's name adds legitimacy in the mainstream, whether people want to admit it or not.
Nate could very well beat him again, though I believe the Nate fight happens a little bit earlier than 204 unless there's new news that I haven't heard.

Wouldn't that be the case if they were involved in the promotion of the event, rather than taking a flat fee? What about if they had no involvement in the actual promotion or event but just took a flat fee? Or would that make them some sort of silent partner to a boxing promotion, and, therefore a boxing promoter?

That I don't know. I'm sure if they ever went along with it they would angle it to minimize their legal risks.

Its obvious from past events that the ufc doesnt care about fighters, it cares about the ufc. Conor making money is not a concern to them, the ufc making money is their concern

How does the ufc profit from this fight? Conor is already their biggest draw and him getting embarrassed in a boxing ring will only damage that draw.

The ufc would have to make a shitload of money off this boxing match for them to green light it. Dont see that happening.
