He did play a drill sergeant in the movie "The Boys From Company C" a few years earlier, if I am not mistaken.saw him filming the show, "Mail Call" back in 03 in Pendleton
he was a former Drill Instructor, heard at first, supposed to only be an advisor for the film, "Full Metal Jacket," which not sure what happened but he ended up getting the role as Gunny Hartman.
RIP Lee Ermey
I asked my uncle, a lifer in the USAF, whether he liked FMJ or Apoc more. 100% in on FMJ. He made the comment that he was pretty sure that Lee wasn't acting. He did play a drill sergeant in the movie "The Boys From Company C" a few years earlier, if I am not mistaken.
We worked well together. He gave me advice that I still hold true. When he was in the DMZ it was just do your job and go home, but always be ready to fight.I asked my uncle, a lifer in the USAF, whether he liked FMJ or Apoc more. 100% in on FMJ. Side story, I worked with a guy who had served in Korea. He obviously was an older guy. While chatting over some Bookers bourbon, his drink of choice, I asked him about his military experience. What I remember most was how he said how much he hated his drill instructor because when he got in his face the brim of his hat would be bouncing off of his nose.
