"I’m not the guy I think he wants to come back against," Lawler said of a potential fight with Georges St-Pierre.

While Robbie Lawler is preparing for his third welterweight title defense against Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 this Saturday, many fans are intrigued by the possibility of a bout with former champ Georges St-Pierre.

GSP, who announced his retirement after defending his belt for the 9th time against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, has recently flirted with a potential comeback. The question is, who would the Canadian fight upon his return?

Lawler, who spoke to MMA Junkie in a recent interview, says it most likely won't be against him. But, if St-Pierre did return to reclaim the title, 'Ruthless' says it wouldn't be a wise idea.

"I don't really get too excited (about a St-Pierre…

I'm a big fan of GSP but I hope he stays retired. I don't agree with Robbie here because there would be no shame is losing to him right now. George's doesn't need to prove himself anymore but if he did return and lost to Lawler that not terrible considering how good he's looked recently.

GSP would get destroyed by a well tuned Lawler. terrible matchup for him.
People forget about how dominant a fighter was the second they step down for a while. GSP Fought an incredible amount of very touch guys, only losing twice in his career and avenging BOTH with fairly early finishes. One fight where GSP didn't look good was his last, where he had a lot of mental issues going on and didn't look himself. Not to mention his competition refused to do WADA testing in which GSP offered to pay for, then when the UFC implemented such testing that fighter has gone on an incredible decline.

I think GSP is a very bad match for Lawler. Robbie has always been weakest on the ground. His Take down defense has improved so much we don't see him on the ground these days to know if it's improved any. If GSP gets Lawler to the ground it could be a short night for the Champ. We also haven't seen how Robbie does with anyone who has a fast double leg. Hendricks had very solid wrestling but never uses a Double Leg TD and didn't have the speed to do so from distance. Condit and Rory were happy to stand and bang. GSP is on a different level with his take downs, he transitions and covers distance exceptionally well. Look at the excellent wrestlers he took down, who hadn't been before... Kos, Fitch, Hendricks. Not the three of them today but when they were on top of their game. My money would be on GSP in this fight. IF Georges want's to come back, decides to come back it's because he WANTS TO.. That means he is a motivated GSP, which is a very dangerous fighter. Georges isn't a fighter who would come back if he thought he would lose and wasn't on the top of his game. He certainly doesn't need to come back for money. This would be a very interesting fight, but not what the casual fan would expect. GSP would keep distance and mix jabs with take downs, try and get Robbie's back and submit him. Robbie would also be more defensive as he would be worried about the Take down, so wouldn't be going in guns a blazing. No matter who would win, It would be one hell of a fight and make the UFC a crap load of CASH. It would also shoot Robbie Lawler into Super Stardom if he won. But I wouldn't be counting the longest reigning WW Champion the UFC ever had out quite yet.

Hope this wasn't a curse Lawler just did. Whenever a Champion Calls out another fighter looking past the fighter he's about to face for the belt....... It hasn't gone well. Guess we'll see if Robbie still has the belt Sunday Morning.

To me, everything would depend on who is faster in terms of their footwork (striking, scrambling, shooting, etc). They both know the angles and both will get fooled by the other here or there but if someone has a discernable advantage in speed then they can use it to recover where they lose the little battles and/or exploit the little advantages into big ones.
Robbie has always looked consistent in that department while post surgeries Georges has looked like he has gone through surgeries.

Imagining how great this fight would be were it to happen makes my ass clench..too bad it won't happen. GSP wants none of Lawlor, Zahabi has already made some lame excuse.
But i'll bet my bollocks that if Woodley wins, we'll start to hear about GSP wanting to return and fight for his title.

GSP wants none of Lawlor
You could be right but what do you base that opinion on? I don't mean any disrespect to you but your thinking on this is, in my estimation, fanciful at best. Maybe, just maybe, the guy got out of fighting for the UFC for the reasons he stated. Why is that so hard to believe for you?

GSP, the guy who fought all comers in the hardest division of the UFC during his reign, wants none of Lawlor specifically? Again, you could be right but it's not like Lawlor looked unbeatable against Hendricks or Condit.

I think it as likely that Lawlor wants to cash in on a GSP fight before a Thompson fight.

Robbie has had excellent take down defense lately, but the thing is that GSP takes everyone down. He mixes everything up so well that he gets everyone down whenever he wants, with the single exception of Hendricks in a fight that he didn't have a great performance in and was admittedly worn out for.

I really like that fight. No prediction because Robbie has looked so good recently and GSP is a big unknown right now. Will GSP be slowed down? Has he been rejuvenated and will he look better than ever? How much has he changed in his game? Since everyone in all divisions have studied his game for so long, people developed gameplans that were causing Georges to lose effectiveness but if he makes enough changes and adds enough elements, he will be an entirely new beast. GSP 3.0.

So many questions surrounding GSP that it's really pointless predicting a winner. I just hope the fight happens. Finally a fight for GSP that excites me again. Got so used to him dominating that I have developed an expectation for him to win big. Haven't been split on a GSP fight since GSP v BJ 2. After that it was just a question of how badly he would dominate. It's nice to have all this uncertainty again.

Prime GSP beats Lawler everywhere imo. The game plan that Rory won rounds with would be even more fine tuned and effective from GSP.

I don't want to see this fight now.

I'd like to see Robbie hold the belt for a long time. The guy is a refreshing change of pace to GSPs reign.

Looking back, this is exactly the kind of stuff a guy would be talking about the moment before he loses it all.

One weird thought that crossed my mind is perhaps his relationship with Rory had or has had something to do with not wanting to fight Lawler. It's pure speculation but well, I'll leave it at that.

There was a interview on Fight Network a while back when GSP was first seriously talking about a return. Think it was Robin Black saying that GSP didn't want to fight right away for the WW title but wanted "FUN FIGHTS" to get back in the groove. Reason being if he won, GSP would have all the pressures back again with retainning the title that he puts on himself. I can understand hin wanting to go out there having some big money fights, not worrying about his WW reign and just having fun out there again.

Did I miss something? When did GSP say he wanted to fight Woodley after his win on Saturday night? I know WOODLEY called GSP and NICK out wanting a "Money Fight" , but that is entirely different to what was being implied since GSP hasn't said a word about fighting Tyron.
