My favorite boxer of all time. I used to have his picture from the cover of SI hanging on my bathroom wall years back when I was boxing amateur.

Good stuff, Galanis!

Roberto was the man! It was so thrilling seeing him beat Iran Barkley at such an older age and being at such a high weight class. Sadly thats also the last fight I ever watched with my dad who introduced me to boxing.

Love Duran. I met Sugar Ray about a week after my 16th birthday at a boxing gym in Toronto and got my picture with him, it would have been just over a year before he came back to fight Hagler. I was all about Sugar Ray my entire life up until a few years back when I started rewatching a lot of old fights and fighter documentaries, and strangely I found myself becoming more of a Duran fan than Leonard's. That was a very bizarre revelation for me considering my loyalties were so entrenched in Sugar Ray since I was a child, when him and his boy were doing those 7-UP commercials in the late 70's. My Dad and a couple of my uncles went to the first Leonard Duran fight in Montreal and brought me back the program which I had until my early 20's before losing it with a huge box of old boxing magazines when I became a vagabond over a few year stretch. That still pisses me off!

I had a couple of Ray Leonard moments myself. I was at the Capital Center (I think) years ago with a friend to see a close circuit Tommy Hearns fight. Back then there weren't PPVs, you had to go watch on closed circuit. I was in the parking lot with my buddy getting ready to go and I look up. Who is walking past? Sugar Ray with an entourage. I yelled "Sugar Ray!" and he waved, lol.

My favorite Sugar Ray memory was at the Amateur National Boxing Championships in Colorado Springs in 1988. The place was crowded and fans were drinking beer and then hitting the restrooms. Lines were long. I had to go also so I stood in line and finally got a stall. I do my thing and finish and as i am leaving my stall the guy waiting to get in was Sugar Ray. I was inches from him and I again said "Sugar Ray!" He smiled and said "Hi!". i'm so proud of the fact that i had the mental awareness not to offer to shake his hand after I just took a piss, lol.

Also two of the guys that i trained with over the years actually fought Sugar Ray in the pros. That was kind of cool!

Hagler, Hearns, Ray and Duran beat the holy hell out of Manny of Money. The amount of cash these guys are making for this fight is crazy considering they wouldn't even come close to beating the four I listed.
