Former boxing star Rocky Lockridge died Thursday at the age of 60.

According to TMZ Sports, Lockridge's family members said he died from complications as a result of a stroke.

Lockridge was a former WBA, IBF and lineal super featherweight champion who went 44-9 as a professional boxer from 1978-1992.

Born Rick Lockridge in Tacoma, Washington, on Jan. 10, 1959, Lockridge went on to become one of the top super featherweights of the 1980s.

In 1984, Lockridge handed Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s uncle Roger Mayweather his first career loss via first-round knockout.

Lockridge later faced the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez in 1986 in a fight that saw Lockridge take Chavez the distance and lose by majority decision.

The narrow win marked the closest fight of Chavez's career to that point.

Lockridge is perhaps best known to the current generation for his appearance on the A&E show Intervention in 2010, which featured his family attempting to get him help for his addiction to crack cocaine.

Lockridge's son Ricky Lockridge said the following in a statement, per TMZ Sports: "It is with great pain but a whole heart that I tell you family and friends that my father Ricky Lockridge aka Rocky Lockridge has passed away. All he wanted was to be in the comfort of his home with friends/ family. God has called him to walk through the gates of heaven."

TMZ Sports noted that Lockridge had been in hospital care for the "past few weeks."
