An intriguing lightweight clash between Bellator contenders Patricky Freire and Goiti Yamauchi will not be happening next month, but “Pitbull” will remain on the card.

ESPN reported that Yamauchi withdrew from the event due to injury, and has been replaced by veteran Roger Huerta. Bellator 205 takes place at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho on Friday, September 21st, airing live on Paramount Network.

Huerta (24-10-1, 1 NC) returned to the Bellator banner this past April, losing by guillotine choke to Benson Henderson in the Bellator 196 main event in Hungary. The former UFC contender and ex-ONE Championship fighter is just 4-9 since 2008.

Freire (19-8) is coming off a TKO win over Derek Campos in February,…

I hate to say it, but this just seems like Roger Huerta getting paid to take a loss. I'd love to see him get the upset, though.

I still remember his epic war with Guida.

It seems like this article was about 10 years too late. MMA was already relatively mainstream by the time Huerta rose to prominence.

I agree it was a little late to the show but to put things in perspective:

That issue came out May 28th 2007, at the time Roger was 18-1-1.

Just 3 months prior to the release of that ESPN issue was UFC 67 on Feburary 3rd 2007 where Anderson Silva headlined against Travis Lutter -- but also on that card was the debut of "Lyoto Machida" on the undercard, Rampage Jackson, and Mirko Cro Cop! It just so happens Roger also fought on that card against John Halvorson - their fight was in between Rampage's fight with Marvin Eastman and Mirko Crocop's fight with Eddie Sanchez.

*Little extra tidbit - Mirko Crocop - known to come out to the song "Wild Boys"...instead came out to the PrideFC Theme for is UFC debut - a tribute to is old organization.

Also something to think about -- the ESPN issue was released only two years after the debut of TUF 1 (January 17th 2005) UFC's big surge in popularity came shortly after Forrest and Bonnar put up a battle for the ages on April 9th 2005.

*I say UFC popularity as we all know PrideFC was nearing its final days as the UFC was gaining steam.

I'd say the issue was very late to hardcore fans but to the TUF crowd it was fairly good timing.

These two were suppose to be future UFC champs and dominate for years ...
