I don't trust that guy's face and beadie eyes
He's a little creepy fella. Rumors of him being gay like with Lindsey Graham and he's ran as a Republican, Independent, and now Democrat. MSNBC's racist host Joy-less Reid got her shit pushed in for attacking him and got away with it saying she was hacked (lol) of course with the help of a friendly press...

That's the goof and former Tallahassee Mayor who this good guy Ron DeSantis beat in the Governor's race and it was really fucking close sadly but it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning...

It seems clear DeSantis is running for president in 2024 and it'll be an interesting referendum on the pandemic.

i think it'll be decided before that...the Republicans in the middle of a referendum on The Big Lie.
I think the Rs are going to go give a strong push to The Big Lie. Then they'll get murdered in mid-terms and the Liz Cheney wing will re-emerge in time for her to run with Mitt as her VP.

This would be an interesting outcome, but the moderate wing of the party is outnumbered. I don't see the GOP fielding anyone from that flank for at least 2 more election cycles. We may even find Trump back on the campaign trail unless he annoints DeSantis as his surrogate, which he seems to be doing.

I think that Trump as Kingmaker makes the most sense for the party, but the least sense for Trump's ego. I think we know which is going to win out. I don't think Trump can win again, he's become a Hillary Clinton. Nobody in the history of the US has been more successful at getting the Democrats out to vote than Donald Trump. Fact (tm).

What I see playing out right now is a battle between those who really NEED the MAGAstani votes and money in a brawl with those that do not. Cheney/Romney/et al have established donor networks, Kevin and Company do not - they're worried about a MAGAstan backlash at mid-term and think they can walk the tight-rope of being sincere with donors and being "<wink-wink> not-really" to their opponent's base.

I don't think it works out, MAGAstanis in the Republican primary get crushed except for a few places, and the Clinton/Cheney Military-Industrial-Congressional complex solidifies power and kicks up a war in Africa.

This is a better scenario for the GOP than their worst fears, namely a splintered party. If we go state by state, however, with polling from most states, Republicans overwhelmingly still back the populist wing. Even look at the creator of this thread who's from a deep red state and is already transferring his allegiance from Trump to someone like him. The base has moved and the party machine still can't quite get its language right. I also expect the populist wing to be galvanized by the midterms where they'll attempt to primary several establishment republicans. The Democratic party faces a similar threat from its progressive wing, but that wing isn't as well organized and is only likely to pick off a couple seats at best, especially as the centrist wing closes ranks around Biden's agenda. This faction of the GOP, conversely, has been organizing since at least 2009 if we genealogize the MAGA movement back to the rise of the tea party and incorporation of nationalists of various stripes to displace evangelicals and neocons as the dominant wing. Cheney may be in a fight in Wyoming just to keep her seat now that the party leadership has publicly turned against her. Her name, like Jeb and Hillary, carries a lot of baggage for the MAGA crowd, who seem to hate the neocons as much as they hate any democrat. Romney also seems deeply unpopular with everyone. It will likely be a crowded field in '24. A lot also depends on whether Biden actually bothers to run again, despite saying he would. A Harris candidacy will likely throw a lot more hats in the ring and could give the establishment republicans an opening to field a Cheney or someone similar.
