Both of the coaches have controversial relationships with their students Aspen Ladd, and Rose Namajunas. The nature of the relationships is controversial because they’ve dated their students since they’ve been teenagers.

Due to West and Barry having coached their pupils since they’ve been children, they’ve since been accused of grooming. Strickland seems to agree with that assessment, as he discussed the power dynamic between coaches and their trainees on Twitter.

Pat Barry and rose was always a little uncomfortable to me. Shes so awkward I could never get a good read on her in interviews. But they seemed happy so I'm just some dude at home making judgements.

But Barry was training her as a kid? Yeah that's fucked.

Pat remembers a lot about those early days because he fell in love with Namajunas that first time he saw her. He was struck by her beauty, by her poise and her attitude. You can say that love at first sight is cheesy, but you can't tell Pat he did not experience it.

It took a little longer for Namajunas to feel the same way about Barry, but his charm eventually wore her down.

"I say we've been dating for more than five years, but she says two or three years," Barry says.

We were apparently together a lot longer than I was aware of," Namajunas says with a laugh. "It took him a while to chip away at my cold heart, but he did."

They're now engaged to be married. Barry—who is methodically winding down his own fighting career—has happily assumed a role as her secretary. He takes her phone calls, helps plan out her schedule. He makes sure she has plenty of water during a long media event at the Palms. He jokingly says he plans on taking her last name when they wed, and he is fine with being known as Mr. Rose Namajunas.

"He surprises me every day with how supportive he is. I never really had that male role model in my life that treated me well," she says. "So for somebody to treat me like a queen, it is definitely a blessing."

They used to both be regular fixtures on the other forum so watching her grow up to end up in the UFC and become a champion has been surreal. He was more active than she was and for quite awhile through the ups and downs of his career. Oddly, no one asked this question as I recall.

No one ever cared about fighter bashing there. They used to talk smack to him all the time. I guess folks didn't really know the age gap or when they got together or just didn't care. I feel like it wasn't public that they were together at first and so they were just thought of as training partners for a time. I do know there seemed to be a lot of ups and downs in their relationship.

So they were 12 and 14 when they met and started training with or getting coached by the individuals. They were and should have been looked at as kids. They may mature into beautiful women but they started with them as kids. My wifes little sister is stunning but she's still that kid I met at 8 years old in my mind, I watched her grow up. As did these two with Rose and Aspen. I don't think it's normal to be able to cross over from that into attraction with somebody you see on a regular basis that was a minor while you are an adult. They didn't all the sudden change on their 18th birthday. They look 90% like they did at 16 and 17. Yet now they pursue their attraction? They were already attracted, that's fucked up. Lost respect for Pat saying love at first sight and she was 14. That's pedophilia, plain and simple. Waiting to act doesn't excuse that.

The UG right? I liked them both until they came out with those accusations against Rufusport that I've brought up here that went nowhere for them. I also remember that strange time in their relationship when Rose was acting like she was moving on past him and he wasn't in her corner anymore and nowhere to be found...

Also since it was brought up already yep Rose I believe was molested by her uncle which she mentioned when she was on TUF...
