They're trying to move into the live sports market. But Tyson/Paul showed that they aren't really ready.
That's an understatement, I ended up using a stream, couldn't even watch it on Netflix, will be interesting how the chiefs steelers game goes for them, I expect a lot of eyes on it

We'll see how this game goes. They were woefully underprepared for Tyson / Paul, but at the same time, I think they weren't expecting 60 million people to tune into it, either.

They're going to start airing WWE's Monday Night Raw live in two weeks, and they're putting out more & more sports docus. So they're definitely after the sports market.

I could see them potentially trying to make a play for F1 (at least in the US) with the success of Drive to Survive.

they've been talking about a PPV model on a game by game basis for years now

I think eventually it will happen
This. They'll probably have packages you can purchase for just your team, or an additional "all-in" package for all the games.
NFL lost their antitrust suit which may allow for individual teams to secure their own broadcast rights. It's a bit of a quagmire at the moment.

I've not had cable for years and I won't watch the NFL, because fuck the NFL.

That said, for no more games than they have (at least, compared to other sports), it would seem like watching the NFL in general would be a colossal pain in the ass for a normal cable subscriber considering all the different networks, streaming platforms, & more now you have to have in order to see everything.

I mean, I'm assuming the netflix game won't be on a network channel, right? And aren't there games broadcast on only amazon or peacock, as well?

That is gonna be a test for them for sure, if they have the same buffering issue they are screwed
Raw won't have nearly the same demand. Raw gets maybe a couple million viewers/week vs the 60 million the Tyson fight got.

At the same time, everyone was watching the Tyson fight at the same time. Raw is gonna be aired live based on where the event is, then available on-demand immediately after. That means the people watching Raw will be spread out across multiple time zones. So even if viewership went up to say 3+ million, they'll be spread out across 4-5 hours or more rather than all at once, meaning you'll get a few hundred thousand to maybe a million watching at the same time.

The fact that they put a playoff game exclusively on peacock last year was some bullshit. Like...why am I still paying for cable at this point? Just waiting to see where the UFC lands before cutting the cord.

Yes
They are gonna push for UFC and NFL and who knows whatever rights or partial rights.

The Tyson "fight" was a test run to see how bad or good they were equipped.

The price will obviously increase down the road. They were increasing prices every two or three years without all the live content. Now they are 5 billion in the hole to WWE, they got the rights to the Fifa women's world cup as well recently.

I hope they get the UFC as well as I use Netflix the most out of all the streaming apps, but in before $30+ monthly for all the content.

lol UFC has FightPass for $10/month, and has the public trained that they have to pay ESPN+ $10-15 a month, just for the right to pay the UFC another $60-70 (or whatever it is...I've not bought a PPV since Chuck / Wandy) per PPV.

There is zero chance of getting it all on Netflix - PLUS normal Netflix content - for some decent monthly price.

And considering Netflix has increased their prices something like 4 of the past 5 years, with them adding all this stuff, you can expect them to bump their prices up even more, anyway.
