Maybe just to make mma fans feel a little more comfortable. I personally don't watch much boxing, and I'd rather listen to Dan Hardy than dudes I don't know. Smallminded I guess, but true.
Also probably to give background color on Conor. You know what these commentating types are like when they don't really know who's who. It's kind of painful. No amount of preparation is quite enough to pull it off.
Like when the WSOF guy called Danny Castillo "Coach Danny Steel" and no one knows better to offer any kind of correction...that kind of thing.
Edit: what I really mean is, they need someone who can look at a move and say "Artem taught him that".
