UFC 198 has been given its main event! Combate first reported on Monday that Fabricio Werdum will be defending his title against the number two ranked UFC heavyweight, Stipe Miocic.
These two were originally scheduled to clash at last month’s UFC event in Las Vegas after the number 1 ranked contender, Cain Velasques withdrew from the contest.
The event, which was being billed as UFC 196, changed after Werdum pulled out of the bout with his late replacement opponent, citing an injury as the reason. UFC 196 was then taken off of pay-per-view and the event turned into a free UFC Fight Night on Fox Sports 1.
UFC 198 will take place from the Arena da Baixada stadium in Curitiba Parana on May 14th and will also feature a Brazilian middleweight showdown between former champion Vitor Belfort and Jacare Souza.
The stadium capacity is just over 42,000 and it has famously hosted a few games from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
