Everyone has their preference when it comes to movies but you can't deny these two for producing and directing some of the best movies ever made. One is an American, another is Canadian. One try to be pg13, the other, rated R.

    Spielberg:

those are some good list of movies and a lot are my favorites but more on the gritty, realistic depictions

I was going by the epicness of the movie (title edited) and how much success they had with their films.
Spielberg by far is the highest grossing director, he's worth at 3.7 Billion dollars. James Cameron at 700 million. Francis Ford 300 mil, Oliver Stone at 70mil, Stanley at 20 mil

that's for sure, he filmed the movie "Platoon" based on his experience serving as a grunt in Vietnam. I think most of the characters in that movie were someone he knew from different squad, platoon, company, or battalion

Depends on your definition of an “epic.” In addition to the ones listed above I would add Mel Gibson (ex Braveheart, The Passion) and Ridley Scott (ex. Gladiator, Alien).

Not really a fan of either, I like some of their movies but think that a lot of other Directors would have done just as good a job with the same tools.

That being said, Spielberg hands down.

And you left out films like A.I and War of the Worlds, which were both better than True Lies.

True that, I personally didn't mind War of the Worlds, and I forgot about the Alien series. I still think Spielberg takes it though.

Braveheart is awesome, one of the best but Mel didn't direct as many movies as two mentioned

Gladiator was good but not sure if because it was after Braveheart, I didn't feel the same epicness but Alien was definitely better than Aliens

My favorite Spielberg movie is his first one. Duel. He showed his talent in a low budget movie.

Alien vs Aliens is basically the perfect retard test.

Most people like the sequel more and that's because most people are retards.
