He's one of the all time greats in my book.
Lately I've been enjoying the stuff Les did with Mary Ford (who was also quite the player). Quite a few good ones on youtube.

As many as you want. Your generally going to receive puzzled looks as oppose to "the inventor of the electric guitar and maybe the most important person in music history"
I will ask 5 people and see what the response is.
Female at work: Didn't have a clue.
Random dude at grocery: "the guitar guy?"
Girl at the checkout counter: "was he the younger guy in Breaking Bad?"
Bagger kid who was maybe 16: didn't have a clue
Dude gathering carts in the parking lot: "the guy who made the guitar that Slash plays"
That last one made me laugh out loud.
Today's social experiment is over. 3 out of 5 had no clue.
and the 2 who had heard of him clearly don't think of him as arguably the most important person in the history of rock.
Suprising, although hes a generation removed at this stage.

To be fair, if memory serves someone else who's name currently eludes me was the designer of the Stratocaster.
When I was a younging my dad had an Oldsmobile with a cassette player. All he would listen too was cassetes of rock and blues.
