At least in the UFC. Three title defenses makes him the winningest champion ever and his 3 in a row plus the title fight (Werdum, Reem, Dos Santos, Ngannou) were probably tougher than any opponents of the champs who had 2 defenses.

Bearing this in mind, how does he sit with you amongst all time great HWs? Fedor still has the record for lineal title defenses going 18-0 with one No Contest before losing to Werdum. Werdum of course has high level victories to his name. Then there are greats like Nogueira, Couture, and Cro Cop. But Miocic has tied for the most wins over former lineal HW title holders with 3.

I'd say at this point he's a clear #2 or #3 on the all time HW list, but in a few fights a #1 case could be shrewdly made.

He has fought killers and won, now granted they were not all in their prime but that is the game. He is def making a case for the best ever. Fedor beat the best big nog, Cro cop, randleman etc so he is still the goat at hw but if Stipe continues this he will take that spot.

With the road he took to get to the belt and the three defenses he has had (not to mention the record for defenses), I don't see how anyone can't claim he is the #1 UFC heavyweight of all-time. Plus, he is doing this in the USADA era, so I would discount some of the names from the pioneer era who were juiced to the gills. Same for the Pride days. Fedor is the only one up for comparison. Prime Cain wasn't able to stay healthy long enough to be in the discussion. Stipe GOAT HW, IMHO.

Over rated. Couldn't put away the most tired man ever.

I think at this point he's the best of a bad bunch but im not big on him

They all juiced so it's a wash IMO. Stipe is making a solid case but these GOAT talks always come up way too early. Let's see how his resume looks 5 years from now. If Ngannou goes on to lose a handful of fights and fades away Stipes 3 title defense poses some points. Stipe needs to keep winning against top contenders near their prime, good chance he can looking at who's out there.

HW G.O.A.T is so far up in the air, we should all just STFU about it and wait a couple years to see if someone can make a clear cut case for it, which I believe Stipe can do if he beats Cain.

First it was Cain, then Werdum (which was just stupid), now Stipe, all in the span of a few years.

This thread is shocking to me. Just because the UFC has a history of champs who could not hold a reign long does not mean that 3 defenses and a record qualifies as GOAT heavy. Honestly right now it's crazy to even say it. Fedor went 9 and a half years undefeated at heavy, probably had 12 defenses or something. And even though Stipe beat Werdum I would still rank Werdum ahead career wise. I would go like this

1.Fedor, and no other heavy is even close yet
2.Werdum, just look at his career wins

Now after the top 2 it can go in any order, but the next guys would be Mirko, Big Nog, Stipe, Overeem, so maybe Stipe could be as high as 3. I am not even saying Stipe needs to match Fedor's 9 plus year undefeated run, but come on can Stipe at least get to 5 defenses before we even start the debate?

Because of how paper thin HW is, it's really hard to say. Obviously Stipe beat Werdum, but Werdum beat better competition than Stipe did. I can honestly say I'm not sure Stipe would beat Brock Lesnar if they fought today I also don't know how he'd fair in the Bellator HW Grand Prix either.

People seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on this whopping 3 fight win streak.

I'd pick Cain to beat anyone you just mentioned in this post.

Respectfully me and you will disagree on this big time. Cain is by far the most overated fighter in MMA to me, at leats of the heavies. Terrific wrestler with decent offensive strking, no sub game at all and absolute horrendous in his defensive striking. No side to side movement, no head movement. His style works against the Big Foots and he had JDS's number. But he just is not good enough and never was. Werdum beat the shit ouf him standing, nothing to do with the elevation he lost because he was exposed. Overeem would destroy him even still, Ngannou would kill him, Stipe would beat him, prime Mirko would torch him, Fedor would toy with him.

Cain has never beat any of the great heavies besides JDS, never fought Overeem never fought Stipe never fought Ngannou, if he did he would be further exposed. I can't wait till he comes back and Stipe further proves my point.

I do.

I was there live when he did it
That was 6 years ago. Coming out of that fight Stipe went 9-1 while Struve went 3-4. Among Struve's losses was one of the most horrific KO's of all time to a guy that Werdum beat for the title.
