I am about as pro- law enforcement as you can get, but this was just dumb. Leading a dude with a rope from horseback would be ok in a huge crowd where there was no chance to get a patrol car in, but there was no apparent reason to not just hold this guy where he was arrested and call for a transport.

Has this ever happened to anyone of any other skin colour? If he was able to walk like that then no excessive force was used and to me that seems like a good thing.

So, you think in a large crowd this would go over well?

It is the method that allows mounted officers to move a suspect through a crowd of people relatively safely if bringing a vehicle to the suspect is not a possibility. I can’t think of a specific example of it being necessary, but would imagine a situation like a large outdoor crowd like a music festival or sporting event.

Edit- no, I don’t think the optics would be significantly better in a large crowd, but there would potentially be a reasonable explanation.

I'd think a rope would be a hazard in a crowded setting and likely not even close to reasonable or procedure.
The suspect could choke whoever or a million other scenarios.

The only reason there's any outrage is because the suspect/criminal's skin color & the total exaggeration of the American public.
I'd guess this is common procedure in podunkville there.

Were they supposed to give him a ride on the horses? I know it looks bad, but will reserve judgement until i know if this is standard practice regardless of skin color.

Not a big deal to me. I understand the implications but if he was arrested near a substation or something its not a big deal to walk him over. The rope is obviously to keep him from running but i probably would have tossed my reins to the other cop and walked alongside the criminal.

But parading him through the streets like cowboys and a little bit of public humiliation isnt a bad thing.

People will call for them to be fired but its unnecessary. I would feel safer with a cop on a horseback in my neighborhood ready to lasso a bitch

That would have been a much better move.
Get your lazy ass off the horse and escort the guy. Or just call for transport.

Not understanding the photo-op they were creating makes me question their intelligence level.
