Something up to 400 yards while having close range.
400 rounds of African surplus ammo in 308 for 130 bucks. Jump on it? Russian surplus of 300 rounds in steel case for 130 also.
400 yards while having close range, I'd say something from the ACOG family with the 308 reticle would serve you well. I personally run Leupold Scopes and mounts on my rifles.
I don't know anything about African surplus ammo, and I regularly shoot Russian steel cased ammo with no issues out of my 223 wylde AR and 6.5 Grendel AR. One thing to keep in mind is the primers/powder may be corrosive in the Africa and Russian stuff, not all are but some are
