President Trump to pull US from Russia missile treaty
Speaking to reporters, Mr Trump said Russia had "violated" the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty.

The deal banned ground-launched medium-range missiles, with a range of between 500 and 5,500km (310-3,400 miles).

The US would not let Russia "go out and do weapons [while] we're not allowed to", Mr Trump said.

"I don't know why President [Barack] Obama didn't negotiate or pull out," the president said after a campaign rally in Nevada. "They've been violating it for many years."

In 2014, President Obama accused Russia of breaching the INF after it allegedly tested a ground-launched cruise missile. He reportedly chose not to withdraw from the treaty under pressure from European leaders, who said such a move could restart an arms race.

A Russian foreign ministry source said the US move was motivated by a "dream of a unipolar world" where it is the only global superpower, state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

Concern about Russia's development and deployment of a missile system that breaches the INF treaty predates the Trump administration. But the president's decision to walk away from the agreement marks a significant setback for arms control.

Many experts believe that negotiations should have continued to try to bring the Russians back into compliance. It is, they fear, part of the wider unravelling of the whole system of arms control treaties that helped to curb strategic competition during the Cold War.

Other factors too may have played into President Trump's decision. This was a bilateral treaty between Washington and Moscow. China was free to develop and deploy intermediate range nuclear missiles. Some in the Trump administration feel that the INF treaty places them at a growing disadvantage in their developing strategic rivalry with Beijing .

The US insists the Russians have, in breach of the deal, developed a new medium-range missile called the Novator 9M729 - known to Nato as the SSC-8.

It would enable Russia to launch a nuclear strike at Nato countries at very short notice.

Russia has said little about its new missile other than to deny that it is in breach of the agreement.

Analysts say Russia sees such weapons as a cheaper alternative to conventional forces.

The New York Times reported on Friday the US was considering withdrawing from the treaty in a bid to counter China's expanding military presence in the western Pacific.

The country was not a signatory of the deal, allowing it to develop medium-range missiles without restraint.

National Security Adviser John Bolton is expected to tell the Russians of the withdrawal during talks in Moscow later this week.

Trump’s new ambassador to South Africa happens to be a Mar-a-Lago memberHandbag designer Lana Marks would become the latest Mar-a-Lago member to join the U.S. diplomatic corps.
Lana Marks has no diplomatic experience, a history of fabricating her past, and a skill-set devoted primarily to making six-figure designer handbags.

But there’s one hobby that appears to qualify her to become the U.S.’s latest ambassador: a membership at the Mar-a-Lago Club.

On Friday, the Palm Beach Daily News reported that U.S. President Donald Trump was tapping Marks to become the U.S.’s next ambassador to South Africa, confirming weeks of rumors surrounding the appointment.

The U.S. has not had an ambassador in Pretoria since 2016. Marks, who is originally from South Africa, has yet to comment on the appointment.

Her nomination would mean that Mar-a-Lago, one of Trump’s favorite destinations, has now produced at least four individuals Trump has selected as ambassadors. In addition to Marks, Robin Bernstein, one of Mar-a-Lago’s founding members, became the U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic under Trump. Two other members — Patrick Park and Brian Burns — were nominated by the president to ambassadorial positions in Austria and Ireland, respectively, but eventually declined the nominations.

While Trump appears to be continuing a long-standing American tradition of nominating donors and supporters to relatively low-key ambassadorial positions, the selection comes at a period of relative friction between the U.S. and South Africa.

Earlier this year, Trump accused the South African government of not doing enough to combat so-called “large scale killing” in the country, allegedly against white South African farmers. While killings have taken place, the so-called “farm murders,” which have become a favorite talking point among the far-right, don’t appear nearly as treacherous as Trump made them out to be.

Marks, though, appears woefully unqualified for the position. Not only are designer handbags her main claim to fame — some of which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars — but she has also been dogged by accusations of lying about her past accomplishments time and again.

For instance, Marks claimed that she had previously played tennis in the French Open — a claim that records don’t back up. The South African Business Live outlet also noted that Marks’ claim that she played in the 1985 Maccabi Games appears questionable. While Marks claimed she played for the Bermuda team, the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association noted that she had participated “without their knowledge.”

Marks brings with her a satchel of legal troubles.

As the Palm Beach Daily News wrote, “Marks has repeatedly been accused of stiffing her attorneys, accountants, landlords and employees. She is also embroiled in bitter, international legal battles in South Africa and Israel with her siblings over a family trust and the care for their 89-year-old mother.”

President Trump's approval rating before the November elections has jumped to a higher level than former President Obama's ahead of the 2010 midterms, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

The poll found Trump's approval rating at its highest level for that poll yet, at 47 percent. Obama's approval rating was 45 percent around the same time in 2010, according to a similar NBC/Wall Street Journal poll taken in late October 2010.

Weird.
I guess Americans like having jobs and getting raises.

It was a bold strategy for the Trumpster, but it looks to be paying off.

So Trump's numbers are 2% above Obama's in 2010 when the Dems got their asses kicked in the midterms?

So, Trump should just take a small ass kicking?

USA has failed to stop the thousands streaming across the Canadian American boarder. I thought I read somewhere the administration said it was not their concern, people leaving the country.
Canada should cut off the aid to the US designed to provide jobs and stability for those people since that is the crux of the claim justifying illegal immigration.

That's what keeps you up at night?

Can't you just post those fat MAGA 4channers? That was good meming. This is just SAD( folks!).

I find it fascinating that all these sad immigration stories are supposed to reflect poorly on the US.

How about the fact that Mexico's government has fucked their country so bad through corruption and ineptitude that it's citizens are willing to leave their families and risk their lives trying to GTFO?

Typical lib unconscious racism - "of course they can't better themselves or their country. It's up to us white folk to help everyone!"

Get your shit together, Mexico. You too, Venezuela.

It helps to know the history of the border, its porous nature, and the bilateral and unilateral policies made between the US and Mexico. Here's a decent (if simplistic) overview. Timeline: U.S.-Mexico Relations
