And it sucked. That's why it hasn't been released, according to Fandom Pulse, which has a pretty good record. I remember that the producers of the TV series insisted that some of the things fans complained about most in the final two seasons were things GRRM gave them.

He's had 9 years to take the criticism to heart and try another approach to the ending, which would go some way to erasing the bad taste in everyone's mouth about the show. I mean that's going to be his legacy, for better or for worse.

Then again, if I had a massive payday, I'm wondering if I'd really give a shit about anyone else's idea of my legacy. Vanity, all is vanity, and all that.

Man, that ending sucked. The show was so good, though. There were even great things in the final season, but the terrible plot decisions ruined everything. Even season seven had a couple bad moments, but the way they wrapped up the series? Ugh. That was rough.

We'll probably never get an ending; and the same applies to Doors of Stone

Even if they're released they'll never live up the hype. It's a different world, they're different people. A good but not great book released years ago would be better than the current environment, imo

I dont think I beleive that. His updates have been pretty clear that he has been just casually chipping away at it, at best.

I think his latest one was him just venting about all the comments from haters.

Its a shame that HBO tarnished this story of his. Books 1-3 were riveting, peak fantasy. Those first few seasons of the show were damn good too.

I would have been ok if HBO milked it by filming different endings. A season 8 where khaleesi goes scorched earth. Then a year later a season 8 where the Lannisters win. Then a new season where the Night King wins, etc

Not too long ago I watched the last two seasons back to back of course and it did make a world of difference. It was a much better experience than when it was live. The long breaks between the seasons and then coming back with what was it, 6 episodes. It felt rushed at the time.

To your point yeah, they could 100% have done that. A story on The Wall, beyond the Wall, where Arya is going, what happens with Sansa up there running shit...

It was great til the last 2 seasons, which wer summed up above.
And I agree a re-watch after years made it seem more cohesive.

Never read a book or watched the show, any good?
I read books 1-3 is just over 2 weeks. Not small books. Books 4 and 5 take a step back and do a lot of world building, but I still personally enjoyed them.

The show is one of the best things ever filmed for television. It has it faults, yes.

Id probably suck a dick to experience either one of those for the first time again.

So yeah, pretty good.

Arya is top 3 female characters ever for me, top 10 all for sure. Of all the mistakes in the show, I dont think many were made with her. Very few. I would rank Vin from Mistborn right up there too.

Varys is great in the show, even better in the books.

Also, Selmy is the goat, those who know know, its just that simple.

You could just go on and on.

Reading the books is hard to recommend because it leaves you on a multi-plotline cliffhanger, one that happened in I think 2011 for fucks sake. The show, 100%, its amazing. Maybe watch it, then read it. There is plenty the show never gets into and/or is tweaked a bit that they would still be great.

The books seemed to talk more about the great war this and the great long dead soldier that but hardly gave us much action. That or I wasn't paying enough attention.

I’m not buying it. If it was done, it would have gone to print. Too much money to just sit on it. I don’t doubt that he gave the show ideas of what he had intended to do, etc. So there is probably some truth in the fact that a lot of things fans didn’t like were from GRRM himself.
