Infographic: The Year of Steph Curry

Encore!
Curry is not only the league's MVP, he also could have been its MIP: Curry improved his player efficiency rating by more than any reigning MVP in history. In 1984-85, Larry Bird increased his PER by 2.3 points, the highest increase at the time for a reigning MVP. Curry's improvement: 3.5.

Strong Finisher
During the regular season, Curry dominated in crunch time for the Dubs. He averaged 50.4 points per 48 minutes in fourth quarters in 2015-2016, the highest rate since the league started tracking that stat in 1996. Here are the four highest points-per-48-minutes averages in fourth quarters over the past 20 years.

Shooting Star

1) In the lane: Curry wasn't just an elite shooter from three this season. He somehow led the league in FG percentage on layups this season at 68.7 percent (minimum 150 attempts).

2) In the corners: Curry's effective FG% on corner threes was an eye-popping 71.9 percent, tops among all point guards and third-best in the NBA, behind J.J. Redick (82.5%) and Kyle Korver (72.1%).

3) From way downtown: Curry made 51.6 percent of shots between 28 feet and the half-court line (47 feet) in 2015-16. The rest of the NBA hit 20.8 percent. Curry made more deep 3s than 10 NBA teams combined.

One-Man Team
Curry nailed more 3s than everyone on the Bucks combined in 2016. Better yet: since Dec. 1.

Legendary Pace
Steph made 39 more 3s over this season and last (688) than Larry Bird did in his 13-year career (649). Curry has hit 107 more in that span than MJ did (581) in his 15 years.

King Of Efficiency
Curry's PER of 31.5 was the best for a guard since Michael Jordan's 1990-1991 season. And MJ in the Bulls' 72-win season? A 29.4 PER, a sizable gap compared to Curry in the Warriors' 73-win campaign. And Curry continues to get better and better.

Passing Grade
Curry also topped the NBA in "hockey assists," defined as passes that lead to an assist -- with 2.5 per game this season. Last season he ranked a more mortal second, at 1.8. Here are the top six players in secondary assists.

Impressive Feat
With $160 million in projected sales, Curry should pass LeBron as the top seller of signature shoes this year, according to Morgan Stanley. And he's on pace to sell more than Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Kobe Bryant combined.

United States Of Steph
Talk about national appeal! Curry's jersey was the top seller in 47 states. LeBron James (Ohio), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma) and Kobe Bryant (Delaware) are the only players to beat out Curry for No. 1.

Points Off Pick-And-Rolls
Curry doesn't just shoot brilliantly, he also creates plays for his teammates at an elite level, and particularly in the pick-and-roll. When Steph is the ball handler on pick-and-rolls, his points per direct pick are the highest in the league.

Points Off Screens
A word of advice for defenders: Do NOT go under a screen when Curry is the ball handler. Steph's points per possession on such plays is an absurd 1.24, by far the best in the league among players with 100 such chances.

Contested 3 Off The Dribble
A double whammy of difficulty, Steph made 200 of these shots (more than 26 teams) and made a ridiculous 42.5 percent of them.

Quality Shot Creation
Quantified shot quality, or QSQ, accounts for shot location, defender location and what type of shot it was (catch-and-shoot, off the dribble, etc.), among other variables. We can use this same metric to identify shots off passes, too, and no player created higher-quality looks for his teammates than Steph Curry.

When Curry passes to a teammate, if that teammate were a league-average shooter from that spot, they would have an effective FG% of 57.9 percent, first in the NBA and well above the

So many of these stats are insane. The fact that he hit more three's in the last two seasons than Bird had in his entire career is ridiculous.

Even more than MJ's 15 year career too. What's more crazy is that Curry still has many years to go.

Yeah, Jordan was more of a mid-range/slasher than a three point shooter but still - 15 god damned years worth of threes in two seasons is nutso. I remember Dell Curry had the smoothest and quickest release back when he played but little Steph is on a whole other level now.

17 points in OT after being out for 3 weeks.

That's more than any player has scored in OT.........EVER.

Unanimous MVP, first time ever I believe?

the best part about Curry is that he wasnt even projected to be half this good. he was supposed to be a "come-off-the-bench" guy, certainly not an all-star, and certainly not a godlike player that he has become.

I don't pay attention anymore to nba.......keep in mind I had a life size Larry bird poster that I made my dad buy me, so I loved the nba

Are you serious about this guy eclipsing both Jordan and bird career 3's in 2 seasons ?

By the way, who the fuck is this chick on mlb tonight? She's hot as shit and knows what she's talking about

Yea I remember when ppl were freakin out when the Dubs decided to keep him over Monta Ellis. Ellis can score but couldn't play D and there were plenty of no.2guards who put up 18ppg.

Curry also seem more humble than most Stars. He appreciates his teammates and coaches.

I remember that too. everyone was fuming because of it (and with all due respect to Monta, he is a balling ass player) but Curry had the potential that very few saw at that point.

I think the reason Curry is so humble is because he is the Benson Henderson of the NBA.....ie.super christian, super motivated, and stupidly athletic.

1) fucking awesome man! what made you stop watching hoops?

2) yes. he had more 3-pointers in 2 seasons than either of those guys careers. the record for 3 pointers in a season was 286 (owned by Curry himself) this year he obliterated it with over 400. thats a 35% increase in 3-pointers and the guy was already the league season leader.

3) I dont know but I want to.

Steph reignited my interested in basketball over the past few season.

He's the type of player to motivate a change across an entire sport, and the type of person to inspire generations to come, much like MJ. And he might just be getting started.

The dude is unreal and seems like an outstanding person off the court too.

I'd be more familiar with this guy if the Magic had a team worth following. All of our stars leave us out of frustration. Those are some serious fucking stats though. Are GSW on pace to win it all?

Looks like it'll probably end up coming down to a repeat of last year - GSW vs Cavs, this time the Cavs should have all their starters. Should be interesting.

I don't know much about basketball, but I do know that if the Lou Alcindor, Wilt the Stilt, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were still in the league, none of these bums would ever see an MVP!

Being from Toronto, I have to cheer on the Raptors, but a big part of me doesn't want them to make to the finals, especially if it's against Golden State. The beating would be unrelenting. I know that their couple of games against each other this season were fairly close, but this is the Playoffs. And the Raptors "Playoff level" of basketball doesn't even look like it belongs in the same league as GSWs.

Thankfully we'll be lucky to even make it past Miami (considering their playoff performance so far), and if they do, LeBron and them should make quick work of them...

what are you talking about? Curry's breaking/setting all kinds of record. What makes you think Curry won't achieve this kind of success if those guys were around? It's not like they're going to guard Curry at the perimeter.

My complete lack of knowledge about basketball.

I watched a documentary on Kareem a few days ago... just wanted to give him some props! Him, Jordan and Wilt were the best ever. No substitutes!

Is this guy really the greatest ever? What's his story, was he always this good or did he just shoot up over the last few years?

I'll just leave this here:

I'm no basketball expert, but he's got it all, and it's freaky because it seems he's only getting better.

Sniper accuracy from the outside. Finesse on the inside. Unreal passing and play making ability. And makes it all look effortless.

The numbers speak for themselves. He's still got a ways to go in his career, and anything can happen, but the impact he's made up to this point is immense, it seems.

his dad is the great Dell Curry. so he was born with a basketball in his hands. he played through the NCAA (Davidson) and went into the draft (picked 7th overall by GS). he was never suppose to be the monster he has become. and yes, IMO, he is the best ever, last year was his coming out party, this year is the start of his prime years.
