Count Tim Kennedy in that growing list of people who think the former dominant champion would be better off with a different camp.

"There was coaching and then there was whatever happened with Ronda. I don't want to diminish that word and call it coaching because that's not what happened in Ronda's corner," Kennedy told 1300 The Zone (HT: David St. Martin).

Despite losing handily on the opening round, Tarverdyan seemed to think that his fighter was winning (even going on record about it after the fight). The corner, and in turn Rousey herself, didn’t switch strategies and went on to be badly knocked out less than a minute into the following stanza.

"You definitely have to adjust what you're telling your fighter depending who they are. You have to know who they are. None of us know Ronda well enough to second guess what her coach was doing. Maybe he was doing the right thing? Maybe he was giving her the confidence she needed? Maybe she's someone who needs to operate in confidence? That's just ludicrous, to me, though."

"Ronda had the brakes beaten off her for four and a half minutes," said Kennedy. "Her face is bloody, her nose and lip are bleeding and then you have her coach saying, 'Hey, do the same thing?' Not even like, 'Stick to the game plan. Change levels. Cut an angle and shoot a double leg. Push her up against the fence.' Anything! 'Keep getting punched more.'"

I'm of the opinion that he was trying to keep a fighter motivated. I've never been one to protect anyone, but this guy is taking a beating from all sides..........and if it's all warranted, great, but what has he done to everyone.........and I don't know him.

Glad more people than just Ronda's mom speak out openly, that actually have knowledge on the topic of coaching. You have fake black belts, and then you have fake coaches, same breed.

I'm no coach but i feel like Edmond should have been honest and told Ronda what she was doing wrong so that she could correct it or change things up. Telling Ronda she was doing great was probably a factor in her being so brutally KO'D.

Yeah you have a game plan, and you have adjustments you need to make based off either game plan not working, tendencies you see an opponent make that you can capitalize on, or to change your rhythm so that your opponent doesn't have your timing..... Edmond did nothing to rectify Ronda's mistakes. Holly herself said that she figured out Ronda's timing, that she was showing signs of reaching and overextending herself, that is piss poor coaching not to see those same tendencies and correct your fighter.

The UFC over hyped Ronda's boxing and her "otherworldly abilities", as a by-product Edmond was viewed as " the best trainer in the game"...... He believed that hype, and I for one am glad he's been exposed and called out for it.

I was more than happy to bash Honda and Edmond when they were on top of the world dominating eceryone.
But I don't know how many coaches are out there (if any) that have fighters go 12-1 and people call them a shit coach.
Shit coaching happens all the time in the ufc. Two almost identical occasions at ufc fight night 77. Patrick cummings getting hit at will by glover at the end of the first, almost knocked out, goes back to his corner to get told "he's slow as fuk, you see everything, keep it up" instead of "wtf u doing?!? Get it to the fukn ground at all cost!"
But no one mentions his coaching. End of the day, it's Ronda who makes the final decisions inside the octagon, and after getting cracked with a big straight left, i didnt hear edmond yell out "quickly, run in there and eat another" that was all Ronda's doing.
Unless you're a professional fighter who has trained and fought under edmond, we don't really know what sort of coach he is, but if we were to judge by results, which is what it all comes down to, 12-1 aint bad!
