The deadly African Marburg virus was discovered in Ukraine. It was brought by a soldier from Poland, who was undergoing training there before being sent to the front. The man was urgently taken to the infectious diseases hospital in Uzhgorod.

Preliminary, the soldier spent several months in a military hospital in Szczecin, a city on the border with Germany. Earlier, in Hamburg (4 hours by car from Szczecin), the first outbreaks of infection were detected (

) among medical students who were infected by Africans. The guys were bleeding from the eyes, and diarrhea began. Because of this, several train stations were temporarily closed - in Frankfurt and in the same Hamburg.

Then German specialists said that because of Marburg, generalized damage to blood vessels begins in the human body, the development of severe hemorrhagic syndrome, damage to the liver, digestive system, and central nervous system. Often, patients die. Now the same symptoms have been detected in the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier. He is currently under observation in an infectious diseases hospital near Lviv. Several of his fellow servicemen have been quarantined with him.

Earlier, the Rwandan Ministry of Health stated that in 7 of the country's 30 districts, more than 70% of cases of infection were among medical students and practicing doctors from two hospitals in the capital Kigali. Marburg is transmitted through direct contact with infected blood or damaged skin. It was originally spread by fruit bats.
