General Travel tips for Tokyo and Australia?

Wife and I are headed to Tokyo and Austraila later this year (late fall). Anyone ever been? Her brother is in Tokyo and we will be there for about a week. Then we will fly to Australia for another week. We will probably fly into Sydney and then up to the gold cost so I can dive the reef. We got some points so a few of the nights will be free hotel stays. Where show we go? What should we see? Avoid?
