Rich Lowry says that prosecutors are refusing to use Penny's name or even call him the defendant. They refer to him as "the white man."

I'd consider rioting for Mr Penny

I'd back you on this one (prolly not anything else tho). I CLEARY heard "hey he's still got a pulse" from the paramedics (or something just like that, listened to it a few min ago and I'm getting weee bit old). Dude was alive. They let him die. FREE FUCKING PENNY!!!!

At that point even if they had saved him he would be a brain dead veggie for life.
Penny choked him for over five minutes.
It was 30 seconds from the time the guy got on the train until the next stop when all passengers left the train and were safe. The other two guys repeatedly tried to get Penny to let go of the chokehold.

That's kind of what I was thinking. A pulse doesn't necessarily mean everything would be fine.

I think Penny went from hero to vigilante when he held that choke for so long. There were 2 other dudes there. They could have subdued him without continuing the choke.

Part of me is like "fuck around and find out". Don't make threats in public.
The other part of me is like "Ok...that's enough. Release the choke."

It's a weird case. Because you want people to step up and do the right thing when bad people are doing bad things, so punishing them feels wrong even when they might take it a step too far.

^ That‘s what I read Anyway. I haven't watched the video.
You're correct. There were 2 dudes that were available to help after the criminal was on the ground and getting choked.

I haven't dove too far into it either so I don't know what was said between all involved - but at first glance, there was a more humane way to handle this guy - whether he deserved it or not.

This is done strategically and to demoralize the populace.
