The area between Tal Abyad and Ras-al-Ain was captured in the past few days while the area to the north and northwest of Manbij was taken by Turkish forces and their Syrian rebel allies between 2016-2018:

Syrian government (Assad) forces have entered Ain Issa and Manbij. Turkish forces and Turkish allied forces just outside Manbij

Splinty @Splinty this goofball says Turkey would've attacked the SDF even if we had left our forces there.

Your thoughts?

My understanding is that there are very few conventional troops in Syria, but we've had special forces embedded since at least 2016.

Assuming that's the case, there's no damn way turkey risk killing an American serviceman with the current tensions between our country, as well as turkeys devolving relationship with Europe.

Dictators have a great sense of self-preservation.

So what you're saying is that Trump or Giuliani has business dealings in Turkey and the troop evacuation was done in exchange for some non-political favor from Erdogan.

I have to say, I agree.

The US and the Turks can't shoot at each other guys, they're NATO allies. And they US hasn't completely pulled out, they're still in the area, just further south, away from the border and the fighting.

so much passion for the Kurds all of a sudden

i remember the same when we're pulling out of Iraq or Vietnam or Korea

and we should stay in Afghanistan forever so we don't abandon the Afghan people we've been fighting next to for almost 20 years?

Looks like we're finally close to ending this mess. And everyone comes away with a little something.

One Rocket Provoked the US Withdrawal: Details of the Kurdish-Russian-Syrian Deal - Global Research

"The Kremlin is gaining ground in the Middle East, perfecting its diplomacy in a very complicated area of the world: the US is running away from it. Moscow took in its arms these same Kurds who had chosen to stay for years in US arms. President Vladimir Putin has skillfully managed to establish a good relationship with both Iran and Saudi Arabia, with Assad and Israel, with Hezbollah, and with the Syrian rebels: even with Turkey.

There are many winners in Syria today, and these include Trump- who is running away to avoid human casualties (as he promised in his campaign). The Kurds are the only real losers as they have lost 11,000 people for a State they only dreamt would materialise one day. Although they bet disastrously on the wrong (American) horse, in the end, they saved their lives by switching mentors."

can't help but think Erodgan was also able to use the murder of Khashoggi & the possible foreknowledge of the IC for his favor.

So now Russia, Iran, and Turkey will meet up to discuss their respective control of Syria.
Assad will be reinstated.

Then what?

The Kurds will not get the autonomy they wanted over Rojava. They will get some control, but it will be very limited.
