No idea the relevance of those examples
Kodak dominated the home photography market for most of the 20th Century. Then they developed - in-house - the technology that would completely transform the entire industry. Kodak's own R&D team created the first digital camera, and gave the dominant market juggernaut a 20 year headstart on it.

Kodak then did absolutely nothing with it, because their execs figured the first prototypes were too heavy and the resolution wasn't good enough. They filed for bankruptcy in 2012.

Nokia - in January 2007, Nokia's share of the cellphone market was 50%. And they were good phones. Then Apple released the first iPhone, and Nokia gambled that phones with no physical keyboard were a gimmick. In 2013, Nokia had 3% of the market.

In the world you describe, "the elites" who already dominate a major and growing market, don't lose control of that market so quickly and completely. They rig the system to prevent that.

Except, the world is a lot more complicated and a lot more turbulent than that.

who owned Kodak?
The elites owned Kodak, and Nokia, same as they own everything. Kodak was a synonym for "personal camera" for most of the 20th Century.

Why did these incredibly rich elites who dominated the biggest industries in the planet, allow a bunch of 20 something tech geeks to completely take over (and create) so many massive industries so quickly?

What do you think the owners of the legacy news media think of Zuckerberg and Facebook, and what he has done to their business models? They hate him and Facebook for what he has done to their industry and their market position.

Here's the list of the 10 most valuable companies as of 2021.

Apple (United States)2,252.3
Microsoft (United States)1,966.6
Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) (Saudi Arabia)1,897.2
Amazon (United States)1,711.8
Alphabet (United States)1,538.9
Facebook (United States)870.5
Tencent Holdings (China)773.8
Tesla (United States)710.1
Alibaba Group (China)657.5
Berkshire Hathaway (United States)624.4

20 years ago, Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook, Tesla and Alibaba either did not exist at all, or were small-time startups that nobody outside the industry had ever heard of.

In your world, everything is planned and controlled and steered toward a predetermined outcome. The world is FAR more complex and chaotic than that.
