Conor McGregor captured the interim UFC featherweight championship at UFC 189 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Despite a tough fight with Chad Mendes, he escaped mostly unscathed, facing a minimal medical suspension for a right eyebrow laceration.

Mendes, however, wasn’t so lucky. He and a handful of other fighters could be sidelined until January of 2016. He has to get his right thumb x-rayed and cleared by a doctor, or he’ll be sitting it out for quite a while, although he received a $500,000 payday to rest on if he does have to sit out.

Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald went through what could only be called a brutal war in the night’s co-main event. Lawler had a grotesque gash in his lip, but it wasn’t very serious, as he received some stitches and will only be out until Aug. 26.

MacDonald, on the other hand, is another fighter that could be sidelined until January. He suffered a fractured nose and right foot, and will have to get both cleared before he can return to the gym, let alone the Octagon.
