Jones or Adesanya have much better arguments. Izzy's loss doesn't matter in a pound for pound discussion because he was fighting up a weight class. The only reason Usman can even be entertained is that everyone ahead of him on the list retired over the past year and a half.

Don't know how much you follow MMA but there has been plenty of fights where the champ was not the favorite going into the fight. Plenty.

Also, he's BEATEN 5 of the top ten and pretty much nobody else stands out for him to fight as a huge threat. He's close to cleaning out the division. That's why he has another rematch coming.

I can think of 3 off the top of my head. A couple with Stipe, and JBJ v Shogun, but it is far from a common occurrence.

He's fought Jorge twice. Jorge is terrible.
