The popular Swedish fighter has now been released by the world's largest MMA organization.
The Swedish featherweight successor Niklas Backstrom (8-2, 1 NC) recently announced John Goodens podcast UFC Octagonside that he had been released by the UFC as a result of his two straight losses in the organization. It is not yet clear which organization Backstrom joins.
Featherweight comforter had the following to say about the decision:
I actually got cut from the UFC. Shit happens, it's just part of the game. You just have to learn to live with it. There are a lot of guys Who has been cut and then come back (to the UFC) and've become champions like Robbie Lawler.
I haven't shown my full potential in the UFC, so it's okay. I'll go out and find some different tools to work with in the game and get better.
Norwegians made UFC debut on short notice against the respected Finnish featherweight successor Tom Niinimäki at UFC Fight Night 41 in Berlin. Backstrom rattled great team with a submission win secured already in the first round. Then he asked the Briton Mike Wilkinson atUFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm, but turned to the crowd's disappointment knocked down early in the first round. Backstrom followed up with a match against Israeli Noad Lahat, but lost a steady verdict after full time.
