Thanks to the UFC Anti-Trust Lawsuit — which sees former fighters suing ZUFFA LLC over their claims that the corporation is running a monopsony within mixed martial arts — we are learning new and detailed information about the way the UFC has conducted business over the past few decades.

Some of the most revealing details come courtesy of previously redacted passages from an expert report composed by Hal J. Singer, an expert witness for the Plaintiffs. Passages from Singer’s report come to us thanks to Jason Cruz, of MMAPayout and Bloody Elbow’s ‘Show Money’ podcast (hosted alongside John S. Nash…

Even with PPV points, the total payouts for champions is shit when compared to other sports. If this is accurate, it's brutal.

The interesting part of the article is the UFC's insistence on challengers not receiving PPV points. Shows how badly one half of a PPV main event gets screwed as a general rule (with some limited exceptions) on top of the other pay fuckery.

But the stuff about the PPV formula is meaningless. There is nothing to indicate it is anything more than an example formula. It's possible that it's a standard model, but we don't know that.

I can't find the article now, but there was a Yahoo sports interview with Lorenzo years ago in which he discussed signing Alistair Overeem.

It was interesting bc Overeem was given PPV points despite not being (or even competing against initially) a UFC champion, but he was also a hot commodity at the time so it might be why that was included.

Anyway, his deal in terms of points was something similar to the example in the article, with perhaps a lower threshold than 200k buys before points kicked in.

You're right that we don't know if the example in the article is the standard PPV points model, but even if it's not I'd imagine the standard is close, simply based on this interview with Lorenzo (whose existence I am completely useless in proving to you).

Though I obviously can't prove it, I'm pretty sure Conor's PPV points are higher than the example model mentioned.

There is no doubt that the Khabib fight at the very least is way off. There's no way even U Fight Cheap would've got him to settle for less than 7 million coming off the Floyd fight. Forbes says he got 30 million for the Khabib fight, and even if that's exaggerated, there's no way he was accepting what that formula works out to be.

Khabib's dad claims that Khabib was offered 15 million for the rematch.
