Cynthia Calvillo (9-1-1Dr) outgrappled the number-one ranked Jessica Eye (15-8-1NC) to take home a unanimous decision win in her UFC flyweight debut at UFC on ESPN 10 Saturday night (June 13), and tossed her hat in the ring for title contention.
Although the striking was more back-and-forth, according to UFC Stats, Calvillo outlanded Eye 113 significant strikes to 70, and landed all four of the takedowns that happened during the fight, leading to more than seven-and-a-half minutes of control. Unable to muscle a submission, she was able to garner 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 on the judge's scorecards.
Calvillo told Paul Felder after the fight that she's looking for a quick turnaround, and that Dana White had told her she could fight four times this year.
Eye had weighed in a quarter pound over the flyweight non-title limit of 126 lbs, and was fined 25% of her show money as a result.
