UFC on ESPN 12 was a fun and intense night of fights, with upsets and finishes, capped by Fight of the Night headliner Dustin Poirier vs. Dan Hooker. After several card changes, including short-notice replacements, some cancellations, one positive COVID-19 test (cornerman of Ramiz Brahimaj), injuries, and even a visa problem, the remaining fighters still delivered an exciting night of fights, and had all successfully made weight the previous day. UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard tweeted, "This may be one of the funnest night of fights I have seen. I have laughed and said oh shit...practically every fight I think".

The 'curse' of Paul Felder (that fighters that beat him go on to lose their next fight) continued as Dustin Poirier took a unanimous decision (48–47, 48–47, 48–46) over Dan Hooker. In the co-main event, with only his new girlfriend in his corner, the infamous Mike Perry won a unanimous decision over Mickey Gall (29–28, 29–28, 29–28).

Earlier in the night, short-notice replacement and underdog Julian Erosa, a TUF 22 alum, earned a Performance of the Night award for his D'Arce choke submission of favorite Sean Woodson. The remaining Performance of the Night award went to a fighter with another submission win -- former Invicta strawweight and flyweight Kay Hansen submitted former Invicta atomweight champion Jinh Yu Frey by armbar.
