The situation regarding George Sullivan and his potential USADA issue is uncharted territory for the UFC.

The UFC welterweight released a statement Thursday night on Facebook, writing he was "shocked" that the promotion pulled him from his UFC on FOX 20 fight with Hector Urbina earlier in the day. The card is scheduled for Saturday night in Chicago.

In the statement, Sullivan said he was removed from the bout because of a "natural supplement" that appeared on a list of things he was taking that was submitted to USADA and the UFC. USADA is the UFC's anti-doping partner.

So, let me get this straight. He got pulled from a fight because he listed a supplement he was taking and that supplement is flagged by USADA as maybe containing illegal substances. But he didn't test positive for anything? Hasn't failed a test?

Yet, other fighters actually tested positive for stuff, but were still able to fight since the USADA took weeks to rigorously test the samples to make absolutely sure the positive test was indeed positive. This makes no sense whatsoever.

I am dumbfounded that this kind of thing is part of the the policy/program the UFC agreed to:

As of now, USADA has not concluded that a policy violation was committed and Mr. Sullivan has not been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation.

This is part of the USADA statement explaining why he was pulled from the fight.

I imagine when the terms of the program were being worked out Lorenzo/Dana and Zuffa lawyers had a conversation something like this:

Lorenzo or Dana: 'So, is any of this fair to the fighters?'

Lawyer: 'NO, its fucking gangster as fuck and ridiculous, shits all over basic legal concepts like due process that all employers take seriously in adjudicated employee sanctions'

*Lorenzo & Dana nod knowingly and sign it*

Shitty circumstance, but being pulled from one fight and remaining on good terms with USADA is better than fighting Saturday and facing a two year ban if he pissed hot.

why didnt he say what the supplement was, it seems a bit stupid to complain about it but not be transparent about what it was. that way people can be informed and get behind the cause if he is being serious

Because they are all guilty automatically.......whether or not usada knows what it is doing, the fighter is guilty and forced to fight through red tape and everything else to prove they are innocent.

Are we living in fucking 1980s USSR?

It's more or less the same as BJ's admission of using an IV for an amount that violated the rules not knowing.

If he gets suspended at all it will be the minimum and neither really should have in my opinion.

There really isn't, and that's the problem. Who out there has more experts and research put into their list than WADA? Which USADA uses.

You could loosen up the out of comp testing, but that is just telling them when to roid. All USADA needed to really do is tell the fighters that they would help them approve their training substances and methods and either some guys didn't get the memo, aren't using the resources or just plain don't care and will claim ignorance or "tainted" later if all else fails.

The options are Swiss cheese testing, or an adjustment period on full testing that is painful due to a lot of factors.

As I always say I am for no testing, or maximum testing. Anything in the middle is worse than either.

Weird that the UFC can pull a guy, so if the guy was taking a supplement and it didnt flag a possible violation, why was he pulled? you know tests were conducted.

Maybe the fighters should ditch supplements and train naturally.
