Chino Valley resident and former UFC fighter Edwin Dewees was the victim of an assault on Tuesday, April 5.
Chino Valley Police Det. Mark Garcia confirmed that Ladd A. Parker, 30, of Chino Valley, has been arrested in the case. Garcia did not confirm that Dewees is the victim, but he did not deny it when provided the name.
James Chapman, who says he is Dewees' brother, identified the victim. He said Dewees was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center. Officials at Flagstaff Medical Center confirmed they have a patient by that name in the intensive care unit.
According to Chapman, Parker and Dewees went out for a drive on Perkinsville Road on Tuesday. He said they know each other through Dewees wife, who he separated from years ago.
About 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of east Perkinsville Road and M.A. Perkins Trail for an injured person in the roadway, Garcia said.
When they arrived, police found a 33-year-old man "who had been severely beaten about the head and face," Garcia said. The victim was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. He is in critical condition with multiple broken bones in his face.
After investigating further, police arrested Parker on charges of aggravated assault and extreme DUI and booked him into the Camp Verde jail.
"Parker and the victim got into an altercation for unknown reasons," Garcia said.
"We've been unable to speak to (the victim) due to his medical condition," he said.
He said that police do not believe there are any other suspects outstanding.
Dewees appeared on The Ultimate Fighter 4 and had a 0-3 record as a UFC fighter.
