Sounds a lot like USA's aproach. It was pointless and ineffective. Good luck!
A strange way of putting it, we are not late to the party, and already had a lockdown earlier this year that seemed pretty effective.

But yes some things make sense to me, others do not.

But thx and good luck to you as well.

So what are they saying? The lockdown worked - they just didn't do it long enough?

It was always clear things were going to ramp up again in the colder months. Were you living under a rock?

But yes, after the lockdown some things like allowing travel abroad again etc. might have been a bad choice.

We were down to 200-300 cases per day in the summer, now we are at 15k+, so yeah, something has to happen to break the exponential growth.

No need for insults. Just having a conversation.

So how are the deaths? Also seeing an increased rate or are those flat?

Our cases have increased.
Deaths have not.

True, I apologize for being snippy.

Deaths are still lower than early this year, but we had 0-10 per day in the summer, we were at 103 two days ago.

Fluctuating quite a bit, but we haven't had under 10 since 12. of October.

An increase in death count would be concerning. We have had a jump in positive cases but so far they haven't carried over to the death total.

We are testing more than ever, so obviously the positive results will go up - and deaths are likely flat because we are treating it better and the hospitals aren't overrun.

Going through another shutdown would be a nightmare.

Yeah it's treated better and hospitals aren't overrun either yet - hope it stays that way. We are actually taking patients of of neighboring and closeby countries like Netherlands, Belgium or Italy. We did that since the beginning though.

We are testing more than ever as well, though positivity rate is up too. Not quite where it was in March/April, but it's getting there. We test 4 times more than March/April.

I’m pretty sure the WHO has now come out saying that the lockdowns/shutdowns are creating a worse problem than the virus itself.
same people that said masks don't work and the virus isn't human-transmissable?

positivity rate is going up, so obviously testing more has fuck-all to do with the spike in infections.

and hospitals in rural areas are being overrun, with regional/municipal resources at capacity.

Depending how things go by Friday, US probably gets a hard lockdown for 2 weeks in December or February followed by more serious tracing and isolation. If vaccines are ready for deployment by spring in the west it'll be September before lockdown ceases to be politically tenable. China and Russia are likely to release vaccines by February or March, probably with a lot of side effects, but both regimes are betting they can withstand the consequences if they can move ahead economically.
