A pair of U.S. wrestlers won freestyle world titles, another will come home with a silver medal and the U.S. won the team title after Saturday’s matches at the World Wrestling Championships in Paris.
The U.S. won team gold in freestyle in 1993 and 1995, the last time they won six medals to match this year’s haul.
Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs is now a four-time world champion after his victory over Russia’s Khetik Tsabolov in the men’s freestyle 74 kg. weight class final.
With a minute left in the gold-medal match, Tsabalov scored a takedown and took a 6-5 lead over Burroughs. But then with 47 seconds left, a takedown by Burroughs gave him a 7-6 lead, and he would add another takedown before time expired.

Burroughs, who did not place at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 after winning gold in 2012, was competing in his fifth world or Olympic final. Tsabalov was the world champion in 2014.
In the men’s 97 kg. class, 2016 Olympic and 2015 world champion Kyle Snyder won the gold medal by decision over Abdulrashid Sadulaev, of Russia, 6-5.
With the score tied 3-3 at the break, Snyder was behind 5-3 heading into the last minute of the match, but forced a stepout and had a takedown for the win. Sadulaev was also a 2016 Olympic champion but moved up a weight class this year to challenge Snyder.
In the men’s 70 kg. weight class, James Green finished in second place after Italy’s Frank Chamizo Marquez won by decision, 8-0, in the gold-medal match. Marquez was the world champion in 2015 and Olympic bronze medalist in 2016
