My kids have taken to grappling practice every night before bed when we pray with them. They are now 19, 17 and 13. So, it’s a nice tradition. They usually get worn about trying to fight dad then go to bed pretty quietly.

Funny enough, when my middle son finally sunk in a great choke, he said he prayed for it for weeks. haha

Because their dad didn't throw them around & slam them on the couch when they were that age.
Yep, I was swinging my daughter non stop by her feet when she 9 months old, then I took her to BJJ with me and we would practice at home, now she thinks she is billy bad ass at 28 because dad would grapple with her when she was 8 years old since I had her sink a RNC and put me in an armbar. Uh, no kiddo.

Kids grappling builds so much self confidence it's hard to quantify. I got bullied some til I started judo. Wasn't a problem after that. You realize that most people are pussies lol.

And it doesn't even have to be "actual" grappling.

i.e. - "judo" or "wrestling" or whatever; classes or instructionals, etc

Could be just you showing junior a few holds, takedowns, moves, etc.

They won't get them on you, and when they do, they'll know you let them. But you help them, instruct them on what they got wrong vs praise them on what they got right. Let them sink in a few moves here & there.

That + not being afraid to be "rough" with them (within reason, obviously)?

They'll grow up to be awesome little maniacs.

Micro-Wiggy (my 8-year old granddaughter) & I spend several hours together nearly every day of the week. And she's never totally satisfied unless Gramps has given her a piggyback ride, I've thrown her over my shoulder, given her a fireman's carry, she takes me down, finds a way to trip me up (so I go down and she laughs hysterically)...

I've done this kinda thing with her since she was a baby, and I can't help but think it's part of the reason she has such awesome self-confidence.

I'm convinced that learning how to fall in judo when I was 7 has saved my life multiple times, lol.
We used to do 100 falls in each of the 4 directions for all white belts back in the day. I used to hate doing that as I was worn out before practice even started lol. Starting at yellow belt it would drop to 25 in each direction but add an additional standing forward jump.

Between the falls & forward/back rolls, it saved me more than once piling up on my bike as well as a couple tumbles as an adult.
