I grew up in Iowa, where 55 mph OVER the posted limit is a $425 fine.
And I grew up on a gravel road, 5 miles from the nearest Stop sign - 30 miles to the nearest stoplight.
Rarely ever saw a cop, and when you did, you just put the hammer down and got on the gravel.

"From District 4 – Denison.

The driver of this vehicle was going 124mph on I-29 over the weekend. Running late for a graduation party is no excuse and will only increase your chances of a crash or fatality. The fine on the citation was $424.50."

How are the fines in your state? Portland was crazy, Arizona isn't too bad...

I stopped speeding in Arizona.

I was doing 140 ish down the 95 in the desert between Yuma and quartzsite. Over the crescent of a small hill a police car pops over. I'm like oh fuck as I pass him....

Panic ensues.

I let my foot off the accelerator and am looking in my mirror waiting for him to flip a bitch and come shoot me or worse, then a second car goes past me. still doing 130 ish.

Fuck!

I waited for all of about 3 seconds before I said fuck it and slammed it. 155 mph for the next 5 or so miles before border patrol. I slowed down for some bumps and said good morning to the guys on patrol, all the while shitting myself expecting some flashers to emerge behind me.

Never did.

I got a free pass from prison that day because 2 cop cars were too lazy to chase me and had better shit to do.

I don't think I've driven over 70 since haha

I got pulled over doing 95 in a 55. The cop dropped it to 79 for me and I think it was $160.
That was a long time ago - probably mid 90s.

Same town. I got pulled over for doing 63 in a 45 but the cop was nice and only did me for 55. 300 plus fine.

Best bit?

I was in a zone that had immediately switched from 45 to 55 after a light.

I was really doing 63 in a 55

Fuck that police

I've done that. Horrible feeling.
Back then I had a stick, so I'd keep my foot off the brake and down shift like a NASCAR Redneck heading in to pit and take the nearest turn anywhere. Best case scenario - you find 2 rights and 2 lefts. Kill the lights before the 1st left turn and start praying.

This is a 1 lane either side road on 60 plus miles of desert. They must of been heading from one town to another and said fuck it. It's usually not even policed, hence me driving like mad Max

that is a reckless driving charge in California you will be arrested for that, I got a 450 dollar ticket for doing 60 in a 45.

"Reckless driving is a misdemeanor in the state ofCalifornia. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23103, “a person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving

A conviction for reckless driving under Vehicle Code 23103 is a misdemeanor and is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for five days to 90 days, or by a fine of one hundred forty-five dollars ($145) to one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.

I'm not proud of this, but I'll tell the story. (not a speeding story, btw)

Heading home from work framing houses - again, mid 1990s.

Pull off the highway and get behind some ass clown driving SUPER FUCKING SLOW. Cars are coming the other side so I can't pass. Dude is doing like 15 in a 45. The fuck? So I do what we do here in Ohio - I start weaving my truck back and forth from the right to the left and stand on my horn.

The dude stops.
- I'm thinking "Shit. I guess we're going to fight"

He gets out of his car, faces me and I see he's a fucking priest. He yells at me "We're in a school section!!!!!!"

I yell out the window "SORRY FATHER!". He shakes his head, gets back in his car and drives away. I look at my buddy - who is crying he's laughing so fucking hard - and I say "We're going to hell bro."

He said "Not me, man. This one's on you."

Fuck I do t know the exact details but two of my buddies got In a race on another desolate road. One guy initiated it and topped out at 155 in his M3. The other guy decided to blitz past him in his super rare Corvette at 186 or 196.

The story of that Corvette is worth it's own thread tho and I don't know it. It's 1 of 2 cars made. And belonged to Corvettes test driver . The glove box is signed by the guy I don't know his name tho

Anything over 85 mph is reckless driving in Florida.

Anything over 100 you'll likely go to jail.

120 mph amd up you're definitely going to jail.

The ol' Romeo Lariat!

I blew by an Alberta Sheriff a while back with the speedometer buried. He hit his cherries but I was leading a pack of speeders and he was struggling to get onto the highway due to the congestion behind me. The road curved and he went out of view so I kept it floored to the next overpass. I figured that I was losing my license anyways, so I might as well go out with a bang. Made it home after a huge detour and parked it for the rest of the day.

For about a week after that, any time the doorbell or phone rang my heart skipped a beat!

Here in west Australia 30kmh or more over the limit is $800 fine and 6 demerit points (we have a system where all drivers start with 12 points..certain infringements carry different point penalties and if you lose 12 points in 3 years you lose your licence)

I got done 2 months ago for doing 29kms over the limit (I'm too lazy to convert to miles) doing my last Uber delivery for the day. The cop said I was lucky.

I was luckier than even he knew. My infringement cost me 3 demerits. I had 6 left. One km more and I would've lost my fuckin licence

I drive up island to work numerous times a week. Speed limit is 120km but its a nice double divided lane hwy with no major turns or hazards. I got two speeding tickets within a week last year and kicked my ass in fines and 'points' against my insurance.

Get caught going 40km or more here in BC and you get your vehicle towed and impounded for a week.

Aint that a bitch.

And yet with the exception of NJ, I've seen more barmy driving in the 3 months I've lived in CA than anywhere else in this country.
