Any wrestling fans will remember the great ratings wars between WCW (TNT) Vs. WWF (USA) during the 90's.

WWF was the powerhouse of the 80's early 90's until WCW slowly started picking off all the old aging talent from the WWF.

The true turning point came when the WCW was able to land two top Stars in Scott Hall (Razor Ramoan) and Kevin Nash (Diesel) from the WWF ...and shortly after they landed the WWF's face of the organization for years Hulk Hogan. The signing of Hulk Hogan opened up the flood gates of WWF stars looking for a fresh start and looking for a better opportunity.....every week fans would tune in to see which WWF star was fleeing the sinking Titanic (WWF) for the WCW as Rick Rude so famously said when he made the historic jump to WCW Rick Rude appeared on both WWF ( pre-recorded Monday Night Raw) and WCW Monday Nitro on the same night. (Video Here)

So that got me thinking, is history repeating itself?

UFC has been the face of MMA since 1993, UFC saw a dramatic rise in popularity around 2005 and peaked around 2012 yet still holds a strong following, but due to shady business deals and lack of respect for their fighters and fan base, both fighters and fans are flocking to the alternative MMA venue known as Bellator!

Bellator has slowly started picking off UFC talent like legend Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, Benson Henderson, and Rory MacDonald to name a few .....they have even taken the UFC long time announcer Mike Golderberg ..the Voice of the UFC for over a decade.

The Tides are turning....

Bellator still needs to land that huge name to really turn the tides but we are already seeing the first stages of a Ratings War between the UFC Vs. Bellator ...something we haven't seen since the great Pro Wrestling Ratings Wars of the 90's.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this war for the viewers.

In the story of WCW Vs. WWF ...WWF came out on top, eventually absorbing most of the WCW roster ...the fall of the WCW was due to the organization becoming a circus with no true leader ...also they lost funding from Ted Turner when Ted sold his holdings and moved on to other business adventures.

We are entering into an exciting time for MMA! Fans are about to be in for a treat!

UFC who has held a monopoly on MMA since the purchase of PrideFC will eventually have to start focusing on stacking their cards once again, something they got away from when they were the lone dog on the throne ...during their reign on top as the sole #1 organization they started diluting their product and watering down their cards because they knew the fans had no real true alternative. With the rise of Bellator and fans flocking back to SpikeTV (The old home of the UFC) UFC will be forced to up their game!

Competition breeds success!

Can't wait to see how this plays out!

Yes they can for the mere fact that Bellator is backed by Viacom. Now of course that doesn't mean they have access to the 22b Viacom is worth, but what that does mean is that they have daddy Viacom to eat the costs if they feel that Bellator is going somewhere. As of now, it seems that Viacom has put some serious effort into Bellator. Viacom is a global brand with channels across many countries. This allows Bellator to reach countless countries. Bellator has given real international efforts as well. Big pushes are being made by Viacom and Bellator.

Bellator needs to show that they can hold at least a couple of successful ppv a year though. That is the way they will truly compete with the UFC. So long as Bellator is solely on free, they will always be a distant second.

They are a distant second as of now.

That's a really good analogy for the current situation. I'm curious to see if WME will drop Reebok and make concessions in the sponsor department in an attempt to stifle the bad press they are receiving. If they ignore the situation and Bellator continues to rise it will get very interesting.

Bellator will keep shooting themselves in the foot by desperately trying to sign washed up fighter A vs washed up fighter B while putting legit guys in the top 10 as PPV openers.

And the fans that treat these geriatric divisions with positive feedback only contribute to seeing guys like fedor get KOd

Bellator is different from the UFC. The UFC has gotten repetitious so Bellator is a fresh outlook into MMA. Bellator doesn't have the best fighters but they sometimes have good fights and ultimately that's what fans enjoy the most; Great fights. If Bellator can keep improving and giving us good fights they will be competitive somewhat with the UFC. If I have to choose between paying the UFC for a watered down PPV or watching an interesting free Bellator card on SpikeTV I will probably go with Bellator.

BeardOfKnowledge @ConorMcGregorsBeard Wasn't Hulk Hogan signed to and competing in WCW before the whole NWO thing?
Correct.

As a point of interest, he actually wasn't originally supposed to be part of the NWO, but when the NWO became a thing he started to draw boos from the crowd because he character had grown stale. He figured if he was going to get booed anyways that he might as well go full heel. Kind of what Jon Jones has done over the past year or 2, but that's for another thread.
