I was right in the skate/punk scene just before Green Day hit. Their instant popularity, mega-coverage on MTV/MuchMusic and teenagers all over who weren't punk at all wearing Green Day shirts turned me off, I remember we all thought they were corporate posers and refused to listen. Lots of hardcore bands made fun of them and Blink 182 etc
More than 20 years later I am starting to realize they wrote some pretty good tunes, had it not been for the hype/anti-hype I might have enjoyed that album
