When you see other media make reference to something you know is/was a meme, how do you feel about it? I was watching Atlanta and they did this whole riff on the "Florida Man" meme and even though it was kind of funny in a way, it was also kinda wack and overplayed. Similarly, I was watching a television show recently when I realized all the jokes the two hosts were making were from meme reactions associated with a hashtag on Twitter. They were basically just explaining what had been delivered visually.

I feel like internet humor is it's own unique animal and whenever I see it translated in other media, it feels corny or forced. There's something unique about memes and gifs that's hard to put across even in conversation. Some filmmakers have successfully incorporated internet humor into their work, but I'm struggling to think of good examples. Does anyone have any?

One thing I will say is that whenever I've met a person from on here IRL, they're usually hilarious af since humor is such a major part of forum communication.

Interesting thought, I've never even considered that dynamic.
And I really can't think of a good example of internet humor translating to TV/movies.
I don't have a good answer as I really only frequent here, some Twitter, and cut the TV cord many years ago.
If it's not a meme or gif from my narrow field incorporated into a sci-fi movie, I am without an answer.

I won't even attempt to visit Reddit; that'd be like me going to Vegas expecting to make my return flight.

As deep as meme culture goes, it doesn't belong on traditional mediums. Feels like the old guy trying to get in on a young fad. Basically this meme...

I guess a decent supplemental question to this is how many images or gifs we now keep in our holsters, either in our memory so we can quickly google and post or on our phones and laptops to bust out with the quickness? To me speed and conversational context are a big part of why memes work online, but not when being translated.

The thing is, it’s usually old memes. Like your older uncle that just finds a meme from 2010 and posts it all over FB. I do find that radio can sometimes throw in a meme at the right time and that’s usually because your better personalities use the internet to find material to report on, rather than parroting MSM.
