Sept 10th, 2001. I was the general manager for Applebee's and closed that night. I got home around 1 am and sat playing team fortress while drinking some beers and went to bed around 3 am.

My wife woke me up that morning and said a plane just hit the sears tower, what?

So I went downstairs and watched the news all day long as what was unfolding.

I went to work the next day and we were totally empty, just me and the staff. We sat and watched the TV all night.

So they started sending out lists of items that was needed in NYC. I printed it off and hung it on the door of the restaurant, then went and rented a ryder truck and parked it right out front for donations. My goal was to fill the truck and drive it down to NYC that weekend.

Then I started hitting up local businesses.

I started at goodwill. I told them what I was doing and asked if there was anything there were able to donate. The reply I got was, we need to talk to our manager, okay.

Went to Salvation army, they gave me a ton of stuff.

Went to the local hardware store, they gave me every single rope, chains, come alongs, etc that they had.

I knew the owner of the pet store in the mall because he came into the restaurant. He gave me every single bag of dog food he had on the shelf for the S&R dogs, plus a bunch of other stuff. This man was paying 10,000 dollars a month rent for his pet store and gave me everything he had.

Hit the local pharmacy, they gave me a ton of stuff, everywhere I went to gave me something. A lot of somethings.

Then the guests started seeing the sign on the front door and asked about it, the staff told them what I was doing and then the customers started bringing in ton's of stuff. I did chuckle at the women that read sanitary pads and brought in boxes of maxi pads, I should have made that clearer. They still work though.

One little old lady brought in a tin off cookies with a hand written note inside, said thinking of you from Maine. She told me to give it to someone.

So it was around Thursday night and I still hadn't heard from goodwill yet, so I called them and was told that they didn't get a response from management, Okay just wanted to touch base because I plan on leaving Saturday night for NYC.

The donations kept coming in. The truck was almost full.

So two of my staff and one of their girlfriends were going to go with me. We all worked Saturday night. I reached out to goodwill one last time, hey I'm leaving here at midnight. Sorry, haven't heard from management.

One guest came in that night and gave me this that she drew, it currently hangs in our restaurant.

So we hit the road at midnight and headed for NYC. The donation list said to go to the Javitz Center.

I wish I had a video of what entering manhattan looked like that morning, it was post apocalyptic. Humvees, checkpoints, etc.

The USS George Washington with a blackbird on the deck was mindblowing, I snapped this pic as we drove by. This also hangs in our restaurant.

So we get to the Javitz and they said they are overwhelmed, they are sending overflow to the ferry terminal.

We headed there and it was mind numbing to see how much donations there were. The Ferry terminal was packed floor to ceiling, had to be at least 80 feet tall on both sides.

They told us they were at capacity and they were sending everything to Met's stadium. I replied I have no clue where that it is, the guy in front of me said I do, follow me.

Driving there was surreal, due to road blockages we ended up going through central park and a bunch of different areas that these 3 kids with me from maine never thought existed or would see. Since I was from NY I had been to the city many times. I had never seen it so calm.

Anywho, we get to the Met's stadium and lo and behold, there is Bobby Valentine and the whole team unloading trucks. Blew me away. I have a picture around here somewhere of it.

So they unloaded the truck, shook our hands and thanked us. I needed to piss so I went into the stadium, there was a security guard sitting there that gave me the directions to the bathroom.

When I came out he was sitting in his chair, looking down in his hands, crying. Somehow he ended up with the tin of cookies. I didn't say a word and just walked out.

We got back in the truck and started heading north. Traffic was a bitch and we didn't get back till around midnight. I thanked my staff and told them I appreciate their help, go home and get some sleep.

I had been on the road 24 hours, was amped up and pissed.

So I sent goodwill an email. Basically, my family had donated to you for years, with the thought that if we ever needed help, you would be there. The fact that you couldn't help out the American people in their time of need show's the type of company you are, you are exactly that, a company, making money off of people's goodwill. There is a reason it is goodwill.com not goodwill.org and that you have a ceo that makes 500,000 dollars a year. I will never donate to you again and tell everyone I know not to. You are scum.

Boy that blew up since I sent it from my Applebee's e-mail address. Had the head of the eastern seaboard for goodwill come into the restaurant, wanted to know who to talk to about repairing the relationship with Applebee's.

I said there is no one to talk to, it's just me. Then it became a further shitshow but my District Manager supported me, so it worked out.

Fuck goodwill.

I quit on Dick’s Sporting Goods when they stopped selling guns. Saw a sign in front of a local store that said “We sell guns because we’re not Dick’s”. Loved it.
Ditched Nike when they bowed to Kaeperdick’s disapproval of the Betsy Ross flag. Fuck ‘em.
Netflix’s association with the Obama’s and their tendency to black or gender swap everything they make where possible got them canceled, though to be fair that’s true of most of the streaming services. Example being Amazon’s treatment of “Reacher” where they have to give him an assist from his black female service buddy and are even giving that character her own series.

Amazing. Our country died that day. We're just living in its corpse. :(

Also if you think goodwill is local and helping the community, they take all the good stuff and sell it online like an amazon/ebay store. That money goes right to the corporation. That money is not invested back into the community it comes from.

The list is far too long... Top picks are Alphabet/Google, Facebook, and Amazon, in that order. They are all anti-American, pro-China, anti-conservative communists.
