Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter
Paths of Glory
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket

Would probably pick Apocalypse Now if pressed for a #1.

Dr. Strangelove
This movie was both not funny and not a good film. And I am educated, like film, like Sellers, like the era. Hated it so much.

Full Metal Jacket hit a nerve many others cant.

Platoon and Shaving Ryans Privates are top level movies.

Apocalypse Now lost me when the french people turn up

Enemy At The Gates is an extremely under-rated war movie.
I like that flick. Funnily enough, Jude law would be a pretty good James bond, and in that movie he is banging Rachel Weiss, who is James bonds real life wife

A lot of movies cross the lines of "war" category due to the drama focused outside the war, but should still be included.
Empire of the Sun is one that's an all time great in that arena.
The Pianist is another one of my favorites.
Life is Beautiful is another good one.
I suppose The English Patient.
Surprised no one's mentioned Patton, or Lawrence of Arabia, or The Longest Day.

Casablanca could fall into that category.
